Job summary

Aalo Atomics is seeking an engineer to model in-core performance and lifetime of fuel and core components under extreme irradiation and thermal conditions. You’ll integrate neutronics, thermal hydraulics, and mechanical design to produce defensible lifetime assessments and actionable design guidance.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant field (nuclear/mechanical/materials/computational engineering)
• Strong grounding in material behavior, heat transfer, solid mechanics, and numerical modeling
• Ability to translate physics into robust models and design guidance
• Experience with verification/validation and reproducible analysis

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply models for fuel, graphite, and core components using BISON/MOOSE
• Predict irradiation, temperature, stress, and chemistry effects on dimensions and lifetime
• Collaborate with mechanical designers on materials, geometry, tolerances and margins
• Integrate neutronics and thermal-hydraulics inputs to assess in-core degradation
• Translate results into design inputs, limits, tests, and lifetime criteria
• Develop/adapt material models where needed
• Use Python for data processing, automation, visualization, and results communication
• Maintain rigorous QA, verification, and uncertainty analysis
• Communicate model assumptions and limitations across teams
