Qualifications

• Bar admission to the Alabama Bar with good standing.
• Spanish proficiency is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of criminal defense practices and trial advocacy.

Responsibilities

• Provide zealous, professional legal representation in all court proceedings related to charges;
• Communicate with court, opposing counsel, probation officers, witnesses, clients, and families;
• Maintain updated knowledge of criminal defense trial and appellate practices and case law;
• Develop expertise with sentencing guidelines and ethical obligations;
• Pursue core training opportunities within funding and Defender approval;
• Research and prepare motions and supporting documents for District and Circuit courts;
• Prepare memoranda, briefs, and arguments; consult with investigative staff;
• Analyze reports to identify legal issues and prepare evidentiary materials;
• Perform legal research using statutes, case law, and regulations;
• Prepare for oral presentation of evidence and coordinate with staff as needed;
• Perform other duties as assigned.
