Job summary

Southern Elementary is seeking a Special Education Instructional Assistant/Aide to support a certificated teacher and assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups. The role includes monitoring student progress, preparing materials, and maintaining records, with duties across classroom activities and safety procedures.

Starting date is immediate; the position is full-time with an hourly wage of $11.62.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 64 college hours or Kentucky Para-educators Exam required.

Responsibilities

• Tutor individuals or small groups, reinforcing and implementing instruction as directed by a teacher; maintain records of student progress.
• Participate as a member of an instructional team including remediation teams.
• Prepare and organize lessons as directed by the teacher; administer and score tests; assist in determining English proficiency of identified students.
• Assist in administering diagnostic tests; score and record test information.
• Monitor and report student behavior; report progress regarding performance and behavior; assist with lab work as needed.
• Perform routine clerical duties and maintain classroom records; operate copy machines; maintain attendance records.
• Provide support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays, and exhibits; operate audio‑visual equipment; distribute and collect supplies.
• Assist in overseeing students in labs; provide supplies inventory as necessary.
• Assist students with proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and guidance.
• Confer with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs.
• Contact parents of absent students; make home visits as necessary.
• Assure health and safety of students following procedures; direct group activities and supervise meals and playgrounds; assist with drills and field trips.
• Participate in meetings and in‑service training programs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
