Job summary

Lawrence Family Development Charter School is seeking a Social/Emotional Learning (SEL) Teacher to deliver developmentally appropriate SEL curriculum and lead grade-appropriate projects. The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers and specialists to create rich standards-based interdisciplinary experiences that support equity for diverse student populations.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified in Health/Family Consumer Science, School Counselor or School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor by the DESE.
  • SEI endorsed or become SEI endorsed by end of first year.
  • 3 years' experience preferred.
  • Commitment to education reform initiatives and educational equity for low-income and linguistic minority students.
  • Ability to communicate well with adults and children.
  • Bi- lingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
  • Experience developing SEL programs for urban/Hispanic students preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach SEL as a special subject to students in Grade K-2 through Grade 8.
  • Create and plan engaging, grade-appropriate SEL lessons.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with state SEL and Health standards and CASEL competencies.
  • Teach students to apply SEL knowledge to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve goals.
  • Use varied instructional techniques to model SEL competencies.
  • Use culturally-responsive teaching to expose students to diverse groups.
  • Design activities to develop social awareness and responsible decision-making.
  • Encourage students to develop and maintain supportive relationships.
  • Plan and facilitate developmentally-appropriate sharing opportunities.
  • Maintain strong classroom management through student engagement.
  • Communicate with teachers, parents and administrators as needed.
  • Collaborate with other specialists and teachers to develop interdisciplinary experiences.

Education

Master's degree preferred
Certification in Health/Family Consumer Science, School Counselor or School Social Worker/Adjustment Counselor
