Job summary

Boston University IS&T is seeking a Research Computing Systems Engineer to manage and scale the university's HPC cluster and related infrastructure. You will operate a 1,000+ node Linux environment, deploy a new NIST 800-171–compliant secure computing setup, and modernize monitoring, automation, and service delivery across the stack.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of relevant work experience with a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
• Linux systems administration with patching, upgrades, and security maintenance.
• Experience in Bash and Python; Perl or C a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and optimize the University's production HPC cluster (1,000+ nodes).
• Contribute to deployment of a NIST 800-171–compliant secure environment built on tiCrypt and Slurm.
• Improve monitoring and automation using CI/CD, Ansible, Git.
• Automate provisioning across full stack from bare metal to services.
• Diagnose complex system, storage, network, and performance issues.
• Produce technical documentation and share expertise.
