Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks substitute teachers to provide quality learning experiences under the direction of the school principal. You will support student development across academic and social domains, supervise students, monitor outcomes, and adapt lesson plans to meet diverse needs.

Qualified candidates must hold Virginia teaching license endorsement or be eligible for it. Positions start October 2026.

Qualifications

Knowledge of VBCPS curriculum and techniques; ability to teach from multiple perspectives.
Understanding of the teaching and learning process and how to assess outcomes.
Ability to infuse technology into curriculum and engage diverse learners.
Strong oral and written communication; collaboration with staff, students, parents and community.
Ability to work with administrators, colleagues and community partners.

Responsibilities

Plan and provide learning experiences under the principal's direction.
Create an environment conducive to intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.
Supervise students in various settings and monitor outcomes.
Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials.
Maintain records and ensure required procedures are followed.
Supervise use and care of equipment and facilities.
