Job summary

Springfield Public Schools seeks substitute teachers to support academic progress during the school day, maintain a safe, positive learning environment, and carry out duties assigned by building administrators.

You will arrive early, follow lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, report incidents, and ensure materials and equipment are returned. Pay starts at $137.96 per day, with higher rates after 45 days and for long-term assignments; bi-weekly pay is provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 30 college credits.
• Submit cover letter, current resume, official transcripts (sealed) from an accredited college or university, and three character reference letters.

Responsibilities

• Be flexible to meet the school administration's needs.
• Arrive 20 minutes early to review materials and prepare for students.
• Report to the main office upon arrival.
• Create and enforce structured discipline and classroom control.
• Establish a safe and positive environment for all students and staff.
• Oversee student behavior to assure health, welfare, and safety.
• Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Report all incidents to the appropriate authority.
• Implement lesson plans left by the absent teacher.
• Engage students with interactive teaching methods to maintain progress.
• Organize students and classroom for effective instruction.
• Return all instructional materials and keys at the end of the day.
