Department of Legislative Audit in South Dakota seeks a motivated auditor to perform audits of counties, cities, and schools. You will work both independently and in teams to produce clear, well-supported work that complies with auditing standards.

Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration and may pursue CPA or related certifications. The role emphasizes accuracy, collaboration, and clear communications with state legislators and agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration; other combinations may qualify if evaluated as equivalent.
• Candidates not required to be licensed CPAs; pursuing certifications encouraged (CPA, CFE, CIA, CISA, CIDA, etc.).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other desktop tools; GAAP; GAAS; GAGAS beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Work well individually and in a team environment.
• Produce neat, concise, logical work products that comply with auditing standards.
• Contribute to a results‑oriented culture through meetings and collaboration with coworkers.
• Ensure written and verbal communications are clear to clients (legislature, agencies, local bodies, officials, and the public).
• Show initiative and seek opportunities for innovation and efficiency to support the mission.
