Job summary

Affordable Housing Alliance in Eatontown, NJ seeks a HUD Certified Housing Counselor to provide individualized counseling across housing programs, including foreclosure prevention and rental stability. You will assess clients’ finances, educate them on options, and connect with AHA resources to create actionable steps.

The role requires HUD certification, at least two years of housing counseling experience, strong communication and case-management skills, and the ability to work in a hybrid

Qualifications

• Current HUD Housing Counselor Certification required at time of hire.
• Minimum of two years of housing counseling experience with a HUD-approved agency, including foreclosure prevention.
• Working knowledge of the New Jersey foreclosure process, loss mitigation options, and HUD requirements.
• Ability to advocate with mortgage servicers, lenders, and other parties involved in resolving client housing issues.
• Strong case management and documentation skills using client management systems.
• Understanding of National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• HECM certification preferred; willing to obtain if needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide confidential, one-on-one housing counseling per HUD requirements and industry standards.
• Counsel clients across housing stability programs including foreclosure prevention and rental counseling.
• Assess clients’ finances and develop individualized action plans with realistic goals.
• Educate clients about rights, options, program requirements, risks, and responsibilities.
• Connect clients with appropriate AHA programs and community resources.
• Maintain timely case notes, documentation, and compliance with HUD standards.
• Facilitate or support homebuyer education and community workshops.
• Collaborate with colleagues and partners to provide coordinated client support.
