Job summary

The Department of Children and Families in Florida seeks a dedicated Child Protective Investigator to conduct investigations of abuse and neglect, gather facts, and assess safety for children in crisis. You will coordinate emergency placements when needed and work with legal and protective teams to safeguard vulnerable youths.

The role requires a combination of education and experience, with certification requirements to obtain Florida CP Investigator status within 12 months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus four years of law enforcement or active military service.
• Associate degree or 60+ college credits plus two years of related work experience or two years of law enforcement/military service.
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations of abuse, neglect, abandonment and/or special conditions for children.
• Collect information through observation and interviews with the children, parents, relatives, and neighbors.
• Assess danger threats, child vulnerabilities and caregiver protective capacities in order to determine whether a child is safe.
• Arrange emergency placement for any child that cannot safely remain in their home.
• Notify state attorney, law enforcement and child protection teams.
• Provide families with service linkages to agency and community resources.
