Job description

About Human Planet

Human Planet is a partner-led advisory firm that bridges the gap between finance and sustainable development, mobilising capital for impact. The company specializes in linking finance and business with planet and people, operating at the intersection of climate action and development finance. Human Planet has established itself as a significant player in the impact investment space, having worked with more than 300 NGO clients across over 35 countries since 2011. The firm offers a comprehensive suite of services across multiple sectors and stakeholder groups. For changemakers and ventures, Human Planet provides investability scoring, investment readiness assessment, and operates an impact venture accelerator alongside a capital mobilisation engine. In the carbon and nature investment space, the company develops carbon projects and provides portfolio support services. For impact investors and the financial sector, Human Planet delivers impact strategy and management, impact assessment and assurance, and specialized services related to carbon and nature investments. The company also serves corporates through fractional virtual Chief Sustainability Officer roles, strategic team extensions, and sustainability and regulatory readiness services. For governments, multilaterals, and donors, Human Planet designs blended finance facilities, structures programmes and funds, mobilises capital through outreach, and provides carbon credit mobilisation and impact measurement and verification services. Human Planet’s work is grounded in the Code of Conduct of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, reflecting its commitment to ethical practice. The firm’s partners maintain long-standing relationships with private investors, foundations, development finance institutions, and corporates that form the foundation of much of the company’s work. The organization operates with a philosophy that climate change and persistent underdevelopment require more mature relationships between capital and its consequences, with investors treating impact on people and planet as primary investment motives while accepting responsibility for capital deployment at scale.

About this Role

Climate change and persistent underdevelopment require solutions that go beyond single interventions. Human Planet operates from the conviction that we need a more mature relationship between capital and its consequences—investors who treat impact on people and planet as primary investment motives and who accept the responsibility that comes with deploying capital at scale. Human Planet is seeking an Impact Investor Engagement Manager to strengthen and extend its investor relationships, which underpin much of the firm’s work. The purpose of this role is to deepen existing relationships with investors, extend them to new investors, and help direct capital towards opportunities the firm develops and hosts. The ambition extends beyond traditional fundraising: the goal is for investors to understand what they back, learn from one another, and remain engaged over many years, ultimately helping to connect purpose and capital as complementary forces. This role sits within an established engagement model where the marketing team manages newsletters, publications, events, and thought leadership. The Impact Investor Circle, with its webinar series and Pitch Days, serves as the principal forum for investor engagement. A new invite-only impact marketplace allows members to review and exchange opportunities between sessions. Working alongside the firm’s partners, the Impact Investor Engagement Manager will support existing investor relationships, identify and cultivate new ones, and help investors find opportunities in the pipeline that align with their objectives. The investor universe is broad, encompassing private individuals and families, family offices, foundations, institutional investors, development finance institutions, and corporates. Partners continue to lead many key relationships, and the successful candidate will strengthen these through consistent preparation, follow-up, and coordination, while building a growing set of relationships independently. Marketing provides content and visibility, and deal teams lead on structuring and execution. The Impact Investor Engagement Manager’s contribution is to ensure investors are well informed, well prepared, and well looked after throughout the investment process.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clear view of the investor market: who invests in what, at what ticket size, and on what terms, and agree priority segments with the partners
  • Identify and approach new investors through introductions, events, and research, drawing on the firm’s publications and events as a basis for conversation
  • Support partners in managing their investor relationships by preparing meetings, following up, tracking interests and commitments, and keeping in touch between conversations
  • Bring in suitable new members to the Impact Investor Circle, oversee their onboarding, and ensure membership offers real value through learning, peer exchange, and access to opportunities
  • Maintain daily, direct contact with investors to understand where each sits in their investment cycle, their current priorities and constraints, and when they are ready to commit
  • Match investor priorities to opportunities in the firm’s own pipeline and on the impact investment marketplace
  • Work with deal teams to prepare investors for due diligence and investment decisions
  • Encourage members to use the online marketplace and relay their feedback so the platform continues to improve
  • Keep investors informed after an investment closes, share results and lessons, and build the case for further investment
  • Connect investors with one another, with practitioners, and with the firm’s clients, and help deepen understanding of blended finance, catalytic capital, and impact
  • Represent Human Planet at investor events, forums, and convenings, alongside or on behalf of the partners
  • Keep HubSpot accurate and current, and report monthly on pipeline, investor feedback, and progress
  • Prioritise investors and plan outreach in agreement with the partners where relationships are shared
  • Propose and onboard new members of the Impact Investor Circle
  • Advise against introducing an investor to an opportunity that does not suit them
  • Request materials, content, and event support from marketing
  • Raise concerns with the Managing Partner as appropriate
Requirements
  • Six to ten years’ experience in investor relations, capital raising, private banking, philanthropy advisory, or impact investing
  • A track record of building senior investor relationships that resulted in commitments
  • An established network in at least one investor segment: families and family offices, foundations, institutions, or corporates
  • Sound understanding of blended finance instruments, including guarantees, first-loss capital, concessional debt, recoverable grants, and programme-related investments
  • The ability to discuss risk, return, and impact clearly with very different audiences
  • Experience working alongside senior colleagues on shared client or investor relationships
  • Proven ability to work remotely and independently, with disciplined CRM habits
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships of trust and inspire confidence in Human Planet’s work through relationship interactions
  • Fluent English
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Patience and persistence with long engagement cycles
  • Comfort working with family principals, chief investment officers, and foundation boards
  • Candour with investors, including when an opportunity is not right for them
  • Enjoyment of connecting people and ideas
  • Ability to work well in a partner-led firm: taking initiative while respecting established relationships
  • Shared conviction that capital carries responsibility
  • Rigour when discussing risk, return, and structure, and sincerity when discussing values, motivation, and legacy
  • Self-driven, self-motivated, and largely self-directed approach to work
  • Responsibility for results rather than accountability for hours worked
  • Desirable: German, French, or another language relevant to the investor base
  • Desirable: Experience with development finance institutions, multilaterals, or donor-advised funds
  • Desirable: Familiarity with impact measurement frameworks such as IRIS+ or SFDR
  • Desirable: Experience of living or working in emerging or frontier markets
Benefits
  • Meaningful work at the intersection of finance, climate, and development
  • An established pipeline drawn from a group that has worked with more than 300 NGO clients in over 35 countries since 2011
  • Close collaboration with experienced partners and access to their networks
  • Marketing, content, and platforms already in place
  • A small senior team with short decision paths and considerable autonomy
  • A practice grounded in the Code of Conduct of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Full-time and part-time options available
  • Flexible start date
  • Work anywhere, anytime policy
  • Regular travel opportunities to investor meetings and events
