Job summary

El Paso County Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a Supervising Child Welfare Specialist to lead a unit of caseworkers and support staff in protecting and rehabilitating families while promoting youth well-being. The role requires strong supervisory skills, crisis management, and collaboration with courts and community partners.

The position involves in-person duties, periodic on-call rotations, and potential travel for home visits and community outreach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in child welfare or social work.
• Three years of professional, internship, or volunteer experience in a human service setting.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
• Must obtain Colorado State Child Welfare Supervisor Certification within ninety days.

Responsibilities

• Supervise an assigned unit of caseworkers and support staff.
• Attend and lead unit meetings; review performance and supervise hiring/disciplinary actions.
• Coordinate workflow related to safety, permanency, and wellbeing.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and county laws and regulations.
• Provide guidance and training; liaise with courts, agencies, and the public.
