Job summary

The Volunteer Center of Washington County is seeking an Executive Director to guide the organization with a strategic vision and strong leadership. This full-time, exempt role reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for developing programs, expanding donor relations, and strengthening organizational culture to ensure a sustainable future.

Qualifications

• Nonprofit professional with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management role.
• Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Proven track record of effectively leading a service organization with the ability to leverage staff strengths across program areas.
• Strong management and decision‑making skills including the ability to listen, influence, engage, mentor, and lead others to new levels of effectiveness and programmatic impact.
• Exceptional written, oral, and presentation skills with the ability to effectively interface with senior management, staff, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
• Experience in program evaluation, knowledge in nonprofit evaluation methods and tactics.
• Superior project management, organizational, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to be analytic and decisive decision maker who can prioritize and communicate to staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
• Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

• Vision & Strategy: Lead the senior leadership team in developing and implementing the strategic plan and budget projections for programming, staffing, training, space, infrastructure and systems.
• Fund Development: Drive fundraising, donor relations, event planning, grant writing and proposal development; explore earned-income streams.
• Budget and Financial Accountability: Prepare and monitor the annual operating budget; oversee audits and contracted services; report monthly to the Finance Committee and Board.
