  • Experience with PERM and EB immigrant petitions
  • Experience with citizenship/naturalization matters (N-400)
  • Drafts first letters and responses to RFEs
  • Knowledge of USCIS filing requirements and case management

  • Prepare and file nonimmigrant visa petitions (H-1B, H-2B, L-1A/L-1B, J-1, O-1, P-1)
  • Assist with extensions, changes of status, and dependent filings (I-539)
  • Assist with permanent residence matters (PERM, EB-1 to EB-5)
  • Support citizenship/naturalization work (N-400)
  • Gather, review, and organize documents; draft forms and letters
  • Prepare first drafts of support letters and employer letters for attorney review
  • Manage case files, deadlines, and compliance with filing requirements
  • Communicate with clients, employees, government agencies, and internal teams

Akerman is seeking an experienced Immigration Paralegal to join its Miami office. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated professional with significant experience supporting corporate immigration matters and a demonstrated ability to manage a high-volume caseload with precision and attention to detail. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong client service abilities, and the capacity to work independently while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Akerman has adopted a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities Include :
  • Supporting attorneys in the preparation, filing, and management of a broad range of employment-based and family-based immigration matters.
  • Preparing and filing nonimmigrant visa petitions, including H-1B, H-2B, L-1A, L-1B, J-1, J-1 Waiver, O-1, P-1, and P-3 visas, and other business immigration matters.
  • Assisting with applications for extensions, changes of status, and dependent family member filings, including Form I-539 matters.
  • Assisting with employment-based permanent residence matters, including PERM labor certifications and EB-1, EB-2, EB-3, EB-4, and EB-5 immigrant petitions and applications.
  • Supporting clients in citizenship and naturalization matters, including the preparation and filing of N-400 applications and related documentation.
  • Gathering, reviewing, and organizing supporting documentation; drafting forms, correspondence, and government filings.
  • Preparing first drafts of attorney support letters, petition letters, employer letters, and other substantive immigration-related correspondence for attorney review.
  • Managing case files and immigration databases, tracking deadlines, and ensuring compliance with all filing requirements.
  • Communicating regularly with corporate clients, foreign national employees, family members, government agencies, and internal stakeholders regarding case status and required documentation.
  • Supporting clients and their families throughout various stages of the U.S. immigration process while delivering exceptional client service.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5+ years of immigration paralegal experience, with substantial exposure to employment-based immigration matters; 10+ years preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and managing H-1B, H-2B, L-1A/L-1B, J-1, J-1 Waiver, P-1, P-3, and other employment-based nonimmigrant visa petitions.
  • Experience with employment-based permanent residence matters, including PERM labor certifications, EB-1 through EB-5 immigrant petitions, and family-based immigration applications strongly preferred.
  • Experience with citizenship and naturalization matters, including N-400 applications and related filings.
  • Proven ability to independently prepare first drafts of attorney support letters, petition letters, employer support letters, and responses to requests for evidence (RFEs).
  • Thorough knowledge of USCIS filing requirements, immigration forms, and case management processes.
  • Ability to produce accurate, high-quality work product while managing multiple cases and competing deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with attorneys, colleagues, clients, and government agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred.
