Job summary

Central West Justice Center in Springfield seeks an attorney to join a dynamic team providing immigration legal services, including removal defense, VAWA petitions, U and T visas, SIJ petitions, and asylum cases. The role emphasizes outreach and collaboration with client communities.

The attorney will engage in community consultations and know-your-rights trainings, assist in grant reporting, and work in CWJC’s Springfield office in a hybrid environment with in-office days.

Qualifications

• Current third-year law students, new law school graduates, or more experienced lawyers may apply.
• Fluency or advanced proficiency in languages other than English preferred (Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole).
• Prior immigration law experience and work with diverse communities preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills are important.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal assistance in humanitarian immigration matters including removal defense, VAWA petitions, U visas, SIJ petitions, and asylum cases.

Job description

Central West Justice Center (CWJC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Community Legal Aid (CLA). Together, CWJC and CLA have over 180 dedicated, talented staff working across multiple offices in Central and Western Massachusetts. Our core work includes effective client-centered advocacy and robust outreach to and partnerships with our client communities.

CWJC seeks an attorney to join a vibrant, talented team that provides legal assistance in a range of humanitarian-based immigration law matters, including but not limited to removal defense, VAWA petitions, U and T visas, SIJ petitions, and asylum cases. The attorney will engage in community outreach, including community consultation sessions and know-your-rights trainings, and will assist in the preparation of periodic grant reports. The position is in CWJC’s Springfield office.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current third-year law students, new law school graduates, and more experienced lawyers are eligible to apply.
• Fluency or advanced proficiency in language in addition to English strongly preferred, particularly Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole.
• Prior experience in immigration law and demonstrated experience working with diverse communities strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a collaborative setting are important.
