Job summary

Located at Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, the Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW) seeks an IMLS Scholar for a full-time, 2027 January–August internship. The role focuses on the Polar Bear Signature Project, with training in physiological monitoring and laboratory techniques under CREW scientists.

The position offers a bi-weekly salary of $1,346 plus benefits, and requires a BS in a related field, plus coursework in physiology or endocrinology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in biology, animal science, zoology, or related field.
  • Coursework in physiology, reproduction, or endocrinology.
  • Detail-oriented, able to multi-task and work independently.
  • Comfortable working with fecal samples in a lab environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process fecal, blood, urine, and other samples accurately.
  • Perform hormone extractions and immunoassays (EIAs).
  • Review scientific literature to support research.
  • Maintain sample inventories and data management.
  • Support general lab operations including equipment upkeep.
  • Participate in cross-training at a partnering research facility; travel may be required.
  • Contribute to additional research tasks as needed.
