Job summary

UPMC McKeesport is hiring a fulltime Imaging Services Tech Assistant to support our imaging departments with hands-on tasks, under supervision of a registered technologist.

The position primarily runs a daylight shift, Monday through Friday (8:30 am – 5 pm), with Saturday responsibility about once per month from 7:15 am - 11:15 am. UPMC offers a competitive benefits package and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Provides support for imaging procedures under supervision of a registered technologist.
• Assists with IV catheter placement following GFR guidelines.
• Transports patients to and from units as required.
• Schedules exams into RIS and communicates any changes to patients.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proper IV catheter placement and follows GFR guidelines.
• Assists with invasive procedure tray setup and couriers specimens to lab as needed.
• Practices MRI safety and radiation safety protocols.
• Accurately schedules exams into RIS and reschedules as needed, contacting patients as required.
• Assists technologist with patient care and flow as instructed.
• Verifies patient identity using two identifiers and documents history in the EMR.

UPMC McKeesport is currently hiring a regular, fulltime Imaging Services Tech Assistant to mainly work a daylight shift Monday through Friday (8:30 am – 5 pm). The position will also have Saturday responsibility – typically once per month from 7:15 am - 11:15 am.

Purpose:

Provide for the performance of a variety of technical procedures utilizing independent judgment and a basic understanding of technology, anatomy, and physiology. Provide quality patient care in a timely, cost effective manner to aid in medical diagnosis under the supervision of a registered technologist.

Responsibilities:

• Transports patient to and from unit when required.
• Demonstrate proper placement of IV catheter. Demonstrates knowledge of and appropriately follows guidelines for GFR criteria.
• Assists with invasive procedure tray set-up and couriers specimens to lab as needed.
• Practices established MRI safety and radiation safety protocols.
• Accurately schedules exams into RIS as needed. Reschedules exams as needed and contacts patients for additional scanning.
• Assists technologist with patient care/flow as instructed. Knowledgeable of procedural processes.
• Verifies patient identify by utilizing at least two patient identifiers. Effectively prepares patient for exam providing both pre and post procedure education. Documents proper history into electronic record. Reviews physician orders and contacts office if additional information is required.
