Qualifications

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 90 days of employment.
  • Temporary state license required and current unrestricted license in the state of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
  • Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol.
  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
  • Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Adapts behavior to specific patient populations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Join to apply for the Imaging New Grad role at Ochsner Health. This job assesses patients and safely performs routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.

Education

Required: Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.

Work Experience

Required: None.

Preferred: Radiologic technology experience.

Certifications

  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.
Job Duties
  • Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.
  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.
  • Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (may include placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and administration of contrast).
  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
  • Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performs notification/remediation as warranted.
  • Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Demands

Heavy work—exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
