Job summary

Thorlabs is seeking an Electrical Engineer II to contribute to new product development for microscope systems and components. You will join a cross-functional, global team developing imaging hardware with integrated software for acquisition, processing, and calibration.

Responsibilities include designing electronics for precision instruments, taking concepts through prototyping to manufacturing, and coordinating with vendors to ensure robust, manufacturable designs in a lean setup.

Qualifications

• 5–9 years of electronics design experience for motion control or scientific instruments.
• MS Degree in Electrical Engineering; substitution allowed with 5+ years' experience.
• Experience in schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer.

Responsibilities

• Develop electro-opto and electro-mechanical designs for new products to add to catalog or systems.
• Design and develop electronics for precision scientific instruments and peripherals.
• Take a design from concept through prototyping, debugging, and manufacturing phases.
• Prepare production documentation including BOMs, drawings, testing requirements, tooling, and coatings specs.
• Manage project timeline and costs; coordinate with vendors and contract manufacturers.
• Troubleshoot electronics-related system issues and provide circuit simulations when required.
• Maintain electronics engineering documentation and material specifications.
• Develop test plans and fixtures for manufacturing; assist production team as needed.
