Job description

We are seeking a highly technical PACS Imaging Architect / Manager to lead the architecture, integration, optimization, and ongoing evolution of enterprise medical imaging systems.

This role requires deep expertise in PACS and DICOM, with the ability to understand and design how imaging platforms interact with the broader healthcare technology ecosystem, including cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, AI solutions, EHR/EMR systems, VNAs, RIS, and other clinical applications.

The ideal candidate is both a hands-on technical expert and an architectural leader who can evaluate complex environments, troubleshoot integration challenges, and translate technical requirements into clear architecture models, data flow diagrams, and integration designs.

Experience with Sectra PACS is highly preferred but not required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, manage, and optimize enterprise PACS and medical imaging environments.

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for DICOM, including image workflows, routing, storage, transfer, and interoperability.

  • Design integrations between PACS and other clinical and enterprise technologies, including RIS, EHR/EMR, VNA, cloud platforms, AI applications, cybersecurity solutions, and imaging modalities.

  • Develop detailed data flow diagrams, architecture diagrams, system models, and integration documentation showing how imaging data moves across the enterprise.

  • Design scalable imaging architectures that support on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.

  • Evaluate opportunities to integrate AI and advanced imaging technologies into existing clinical imaging workflows.

  • Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure imaging systems, interfaces, data transfers, and cloud environments meet organizational security requirements.

  • Provide technical leadership for PACS upgrades, migrations, implementations, integrations, and modernization initiatives.

  • Analyze existing imaging environments and identify architectural risks, performance issues, integration gaps, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Troubleshoot complex interoperability and connectivity issues across PACS, modalities, interfaces, networks, and downstream applications.

  • Collaborate with radiology, clinical teams, infrastructure, networking, cloud, cybersecurity, vendors, and application teams.

  • Develop technical standards and architectural recommendations for enterprise imaging.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to PACS administrators, engineers, analysts, and project teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with PACS architecture, administration, engineering, or enterprise imaging.

  • Advanced understanding of DICOM, including DICOM communication and imaging workflows.

  • Strong knowledge of healthcare interoperability and integration technologies.

  • Experience integrating PACS with RIS, EHR/EMR, VNA, imaging modalities, and other clinical systems.

  • Understanding of HL7 and/or FHIR and their role within healthcare imaging workflows.

  • Experience designing or supporting cloud or hybrid-cloud imaging architectures.

  • Strong understanding of networking, infrastructure, cybersecurity, identity/access, data protection, and system integration as they relate to medical imaging.

  • Ability to create professional architecture diagrams, data flow diagrams, integration models, and technical documentation.

  • Experience leading complex PACS migrations, upgrades, integrations, or modernization projects.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across application, integration, infrastructure, and network layers.

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and clinical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Sectra PACS experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with enterprise imaging and Vendor Neutral Archives (VNA).

  • Experience integrating AI-powered radiology or medical imaging solutions.

  • Experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or other healthcare cloud environments.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and security requirements applicable to healthcare and medical imaging.

  • Experience with large hospital systems, health systems, or multi-site imaging environments.

  • Previous experience serving as a PACS Architect, Enterprise Imaging Architect, PACS Manager, Imaging Systems Engineer, or similar senior technical role.

Ideal Candidate

This position is best suited for someone who goes beyond traditional PACS administration. We are looking for an individual who understands the full technical architecture surrounding medical imaging and can determine how PACS, DICOM, clinical applications, infrastructure, cloud, cybersecurity, and emerging AI technologies should work together.

The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between hands-on technical problem solving and high-level architecture, with the ability to visually document complex environments and design scalable solutions for the future.
