Job summary

KLA is seeking students (BS/MS/PhD) in CS/EE/Applied Math/Physics to develop Python-based software and AI/ML prototypes for image-based diagnostics. You will prepare datasets, assess image quality metrics, and evaluate prototypes against baselines, documenting accuracy, uncertainty, and failure modes in collaboration with engineers.

Ideal candidates have Python, ML fundamentals, and strong communication. Exposure to PyTorch or TensorFlow is a plus, with opportunities to work on cutting-edge

Responsibilities

• Develop Python-based software and AI/ML prototypes that combine analytical models with image-based diagnostics.
• Prepare representative image and signal datasets and assess metrics (resolution, noise, spectral content, sampling, aliasing, uniformity, contrast).
• Evaluate prototypes against baselines; document accuracy, uncertainty, and failure cases.
• Identify performance-limiting parameters and recommend calibration actions.
• Build reproducible code, tests, and technical documentation; collaborate with engineers using approved data and AI tools.
• Explore AI-assisted troubleshooting or workflow automation with mentor.
