Job summary

Safran Defense & Space, Inc. is seeking an Applications Engineer in Camarillo, CA to serve as the primary technical resource for customers. You will assist with system setup, troubleshooting, and documentation to improve the customer experience and reduce support requests.

You will collaborate with engineering and sales to define requirements, test new features, and demonstrate capabilities across Windows and Linux environments. Prior hands-on hardware and Python programming are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 2–3 years in an engineering role with hands-on hardware experience.
  • Familiarity with image sensors and processing techniques.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to varied audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers to set up hardware products, diagnose, and resolve technical issues at an embedded system level.
  • Develop user guides, application notes, helper scripts, and demonstration materials.
  • Create and maintain example code demonstrating camera features and functions.
  • Develop requirements and testing procedures for new product features.
  • Test and evaluate new sensor features under diverse operating conditions.
  • Work with the sales team to understand customer needs and offer tailored technical support.
  • Conduct technical demonstrations in-person and via platforms like Microsoft Teams.

Position Profile

The Applications Engineer serves as the primary technical resource for customers, providing expert support for embedded hardware products by assisting with system setup, troubleshooting, and issue resolution. This role develops technical documentation, user guides, application notes, example code, and demonstration materials to enhance the customer experience and reduce support requests. The Applications Engineer collaborates with engineering teams to define requirements, develop test procedures, and evaluate new product features and sensor capabilities under a variety of operating conditions. Working closely with Sales, this position identifies customer needs, delivers technical presentations and product demonstrations, and clearly communicates product capabilities, specifications, and measurement techniques to customers with varying levels of technical expertise.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in an engineering role with hands‑on hardware experience, preferably within a technical customer support or applications engineering function.
  • Familiarity with image sensors and processing techniques.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with Python; familiarity with at least one additional object-oriented programming language is preferred.
  • Hands‑on experience troubleshooting electronics, firmware, and hardware.
  • Requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status required.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Strong analytical abilities, including troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and printed circuit board layouts.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience working with both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with hardware and software tools.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high efficiency and productivity. Experience working in an ITAR environment
  • Experience working in an ITAR enviroment

Salary Range: $85,000-$120,000 annual salary, plus participation in management performance bonus plan.
