Job summary

California State University, Fullerton invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Illustration with a Fall 2027 appointment. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop new courses, and contribute to a dynamic, growing illustration program.

The candidate should have an MFA or terminal degree, college teaching experience, and a sustained record in illustration, with proficiency in figurative drawing/painting and knowledge of visual

Qualifications

• MFA or terminal degree in illustration or related discipline from an accredited institution.
• College or university-level teaching experience in courses specifically relevant to the position.
• A sustained record of professional experience, creative practices, and/or scholarly achievement within the expanded field of illustration.
• Demonstrated proficiency in figurative sketching, drawing, and painting techniques utilizing industry-standard analog and/or digital illustration tools (i.e., Adobe Creative Suite).
• Demonstrated knowledge of inventive image-building concepts, such as visual storytelling, staging, linear perspective, anatomy, light, color, and design principles.
• Successful student portfolio examples that demonstrate classroom teaching relevant to the job.
• Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching of a highly diverse student population, including varied socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age, and gender identity, etc.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment with a wide and culturally diverse range of colleagues, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in the Illustration program and develop new courses to meet future requirements.
• Teach courses and assist with courses in traditional and digital illustration tools, concepts, styles, history, professional practices, and visual storytelling.
• Contribute to departmental life and development, recruitment, and outreach; participate in growing and distinguishing the illustration program.
