Job summary

Optum is seeking an IIB and MQ Platform Engineer to design, deploy, and support enterprise integration services using IBM ACE/IIB and MQ. You will architect message flows, develop telemetry dashboards, and implement secure API connectivity across cloud and on‑prem environments.

The role requires strong Java, Python, Docker, and Kubernetes skills, plus experience with monitoring tools and CI/CD pipelines. Remote work is available nationwide with in‑office requirements in some locations.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software or systems engineering handling enterprise messaging and integration infrastructure.
  • 3+ years with Java/Spring Boot.
  • 3+ years with Python and React development.
  • 2+ years with Ansible, Docker, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes.
  • 1+ year with Grafana, Splunk, Prometheus, and databases (MySQL, DB2).

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy integration services using IBM ACE/IIB.
  • Troubleshoot IIB issues with upstream and downstream teams.
  • Develop dashboards in Grafana and Splunk for telemetry and status reporting.
  • Build apps to manage MQ systems using Python, Java, React, Go, Docker, and GitHub Actions.
  • Implement proactive monitoring with GitHub Actions, Ansible, Prometheus, Grafana, and Splunk.
  • Manage IBM MQ configurations (local/remote/cluster queues, SSL/TLS, firewall rules).
  • Configure REST APIs and MQ API setups for cloud and on‑prem connectivity.
  • Support DB2 and MySQL databases and on‑call incident response.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy integration services usingIBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE)
  • Provide support during testing phases and troubleshootIBM Integration Bus (IIB)issues with upstream and downstream teams

  • UnderstandIBM MQconfigurations, including local, remote, and cluster queues, processes, channels, SSL/TLS, ciphers, and firewall settings
  • Configure and maintain REST APIs and MQ API setups to support application connectivity from cloud and on-premises environments
  • Support infrastructure and PLM initiatives, includingDB2 andMySQLdatabases
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoot complex production issues beyond the scope of application teams, ensuring timely resolution and system stability; experienced inon-call supportfor critical incidents
  • Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline daily engineering workflows, automate routine operational tasks, and drive continuous process improvement
  • Evaluate emerging technical trends and AI-assisted productivity tools to inform solution design, incident triage, and technical innovation

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of software engineering or systems engineering experience managing enterprise messaging and integration infrastructure
  • 5+ yearsof expertise in designing and implementingIBM Integration Bus (IIB)andIBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE)message flows using various nodes and formats, includingXML,JSON,SOAP, andKafka
  • 3+ yearsof application development experience withJavaandSpring Bootframeworks
  • 3+ yearsof hands-on development experience withPythonandReact
  • 3+ yearsof practical experience withAnsible,Docker,GitHub,GitHub Actions,Kubernetes
  • 2+ years of proficiency in implementingauthentication and authorizationfor Python and Java applications usingPingFederate SSO,OIDC, LDAP, and managing secrets withCyberArkandHashiCorp Vault
  • 2+ years of extensive experience withIBM MQ, including configuration and management of local, remote, and cluster queues, processes, channels,SSL/TLS, ciphers, and firewall settings
  • 1+ yearsof experience withGrafana,Splunk,Prometheus,MySQL, andDB2
  • 1+ years of understanding security protocols such asOAuth,JWT tokens, andSSL certificates
  • 1+ years of familiarity with mainframe concepts, includingCOBOL copybooksandCICS
  • 1+ years of experience utilizing enterprise-approvedAI tools or AI-assisted developmentapplications to augment daily productivity and technical workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on industry experience
  • Proven experience administering and supporting IBM MQ and IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) in High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments and/or IBM MQ Appliance deployments
  • Strong expertise in deploying, configuring, and managing containerized messaging solutions using Kubernetes
  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing RESTful APIs to enable secure and scalable application integration
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI-assisted tools and technologies to enhance incident management, automate scripting tasks, and improve technical documentation
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a proven track record of working effectively across globally distributed engineering teams spanning multiple time zones

The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
