Job summary

Total Safety in Texas is seeking an IH Specialist to analyze, identify, and measure workplace hazards from chemical, physical, ergonomic, or biological exposures.

You will conduct surveys, collect field notes, prepare reports, calibrate equipment after training, and help implement health and safety policies. The role prefers a bachelor’s degree and 1–3 years IH technician experience, with ability to work outside normal hours.

Qualifications

  • Requires high school diploma and bachelor's degree (preferred) in environmental science, environmental studies, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, public health, project management, construction, or related field, with 1–3 years of industrial hygiene technician experience.
  • Must be able to wear respirator and PPE as needed.
  • Occasional outside-hours work may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision, conduct asbestos, lead-based paint, mold and/or other hazardous materials surveys.
  • Provide asbestos and lead-based paint oversight during abatement activities.
  • Collect detailed field notes and photographs of site conditions and findings.
  • Prepare chain-of-custody documents for analytical testing, recording survey data on approved forms completely and legibly.
  • Ability to compose detailed sample location maps.
  • Compile and organize data for reports.
  • Present data and make recommendations to upper-level staff on recommendations.
  • Prepare reports or portions of reports detailing survey/project information.
  • After training, use standard and specialized equipment (hand tools for sample collection, pumps, PCM microscope, XRF analyzer, moisture meter, IAQ meter, etc.).
  • After training, calibrate instruments and download data in the field.
  • Implement Total Safety’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Job description

Total Safety is looking for an IH Specialist to join their safety conscious team! The IH Specialist analyze, identify, and measure workplace hazards or stresses that can cause sickness, impaired health, or significant discomfort in workers through chemical, physical, ergonomic, or biological exposures.

Job Responsibilities Include

  • After training, use standard and specialized equipment, such as hand tools for collection of building material samples, high volume and low volume pumps, PCM microscope, rotameter, XRF analyzer, moisture meter, mold pump, infrared camera, IAQ meter, and/or others
  • After training, ability to calibrate instruments, use equipment in the field, download data, clean and maintain equipment.
  • Implement Atlas’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Approval to drive a company vehicle or rental vehicles – valid Driver’s License and clean driving record.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma and bachelor's degree (preferred) in environmental science, environmental studies, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, public health, project management, construction, or related field and 1-3 years of experience as an industrial hygiene technician.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator, safety harness, and other personal protective equipment as needed.
  • Able to work outside of normal business hours on occasion.
Technical Requirements
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations applicable to asbestos and lead preferred

  • Strong problem-solving, workload management, and organizational skills with limited supervision.
  • Professional, self-motivated, team player with strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders and lift up to 50 pounds.
