The Institute for Genomic Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to join our Bioinformatics Services team. A successful candidate will develop reproducible bioinformatics workflows and analyze complex data, communicating findings to multidisciplinary collaborators.

Under guidance of senior staff, you will apply scalable computing tools and maintain thorough documentation to support research and clinical programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular genetics, computer science, bioinformatics, or related field.
  • MS degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, or related discipline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes genomic data to identify potential disease-causing mutations or genetic variations.
  • Develops and implements bioinformatics pipelines and workflows for genomic data analysis.
  • Collaborates with research teams to design experiments and analyze data.
  • Maintains and updates genomic databases and software tools.

  • Stays up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics and genomics research.

Overview

The Institute for Genomic Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst to join our Bioinformatics Services team in supporting research and clinical programs. A successful candidate will have the technical skills to support the development and maintenance of reproducible bioinformatics workflows and analyze complex biological data using established methods. Working under the guidance of senior team members, they will evaluate analytical approaches, interpret results, and communicate findings clearly to multidisciplinary collaborators. They will apply sound software development practices and scalable computing tools while maintaining accurate documentation and analysis records.

Job Description: Essential Functions
  • Analyzes and interprets genomic data to identify potential disease-causing mutations or genetic variations.
  • Develops and implements bioinformatics pipelines and workflows for genomic data analysis.
  • Collaborates with research teams to design experiments and analyze data.
  • Maintains and updates genomic databases and software tools.
  • Communicates findings and results to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Stays up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics and genomics research.
Education Requirement
  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular genetics, computer science, bioinformatics, or related field, required.
  • M.S degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, or a related discipline, preferred.
Skills
  • Superior attention to detail and adherence to quality standards.
  • Interest in genomics and bioinformatics, and willingness to learn concepts and terminology from these fields as needed.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be essential.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment.
Experience
  • Experience in a Linux/Unix environment and familiarity with scripting and process automation (Python/Perl, shell), preferred.
