The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB Group) invites eligible university students to join the 2027 Winter Internship Program in Washington, D.C. as an Intern Consultant.

The program offers paid, on-the-job learning and exposure to development finance within a structured two-month period. Applicants should be active graduate students in Finance or related fields, with strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Active graduate student in a relevant discipline with graduation after the internship.
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of another Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
  • Enrolled in a graduate program as of the internship start; graduation after the internship.
  • Not have family members working at the IDB Group or IDB Invest.
  • First-time participant in an IDB Group internship program and not a former staff member or contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Apply quantitative tools for risk analysis across investment portfolios and forward-looking metrics.
  • Develop risk dashboards and visual analytics for Treasury risk decision-making.
  • Support automation of risk reporting and data controls to improve accuracy and timeliness of monitoring.
  • Analyze fixed income markets and liquidity risk drivers through applied research on indicators and trends.
  • Translate quantitative analysis into concise risk insights for portfolio oversight and governance.

About this position

The IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality.

The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.

What you'll do
  • Apply quantitative tools for risk analysis across the investment portfolios, including forward-looking metrics and resilience indicators.
  • Develop and enhance risk dashboards and visual analytics that transform risk metrics, portfolio data, and market indicators into actionable insights for Treasury risk decision-making.
  • Support automation of risk reporting and data controls to improve the accuracy, timeliness, and transparency of portfolio risk monitoring.
  • Analyze fixed income markets and liquidity risk drivers through applied research on market indicators, benchmarking practices, and portfolio risk trends.
  • Translate quantitative analysis into concise risk insights through analytical summaries and presentation materials supporting portfolio oversight, governance, and methodology discussions.
What you'll need
  • Education: An active graduate student in Finance, Risk Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, or other relevant disciplines from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Languages: Fluency in English with a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
  • Key Skills: Learn continuously, collaborate and share knowledge, focus on clients, communicate and influence, innovate and try new things
  • Soft Skills: Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent time management skills.
  • Technical skills: Experience in finance, capital markets, risk management and/or portfolio management with exposure to derivatives a plus. Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to add value to the risk management process through creative thinking and in-depth and disciplined analyses. Strong communication skills, including the ability to draft well-written, coherent analyses and documents.
  • Active student: Enrolled in a graduate (master’s or Ph.D.) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Consanguinity: Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
  • First job at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.

  • You must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) from January 16th to March 15th, 2027. These dates are fixed and cannot be modified. Interns must complete their assignments within this period.
    • If you are an international student in the U.S.A., your work authorization is through CPT or OPT. Consult your school advisor before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week, many international students are limited to working part-time, depending on their academic standing.
