Job summary

Inter-American Development Bank is seeking an active graduate student for a two-month internship as an Intern Consultant in Washington, DC. The role focuses on supporting credit risk assessments, data analysis, and dashboard development, with on-the-job learning across treasury credit activities.

You'll work with Excel, Power BI, Power Apps, and related tools, while collaborating with senior staff to deliver concise reports and insights within a fixed January–March timeframe.

Qualifications

  • Active graduate student in Economics, Finance, Engineering or Business with graduation after the internship period.
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of another Bank language is a plus.
  • Strong analytic and research abilities with knowledge of credit risk concepts.
  • Experience with data analysis tools and MS Office; programming skills are advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support the credit team in credit assessments and financial analyses of treasury issuers.
  • Research issuers, jurisdictions, markets, and regulatory developments for risk assessments.
  • Prepare concise credit reports, memoranda, and presentation materials.
  • Collect, validate, and analyze financial, market, and economic data for reporting.
  • Help enhance and maintain analytical tools, dashboards, and data processes using Excel, Power BI, and internal platforms.
  • Undertake other treasury credit risk analysis and tool development tasks as assigned.

About this position

The IDB Group is looking for an active graduate student to be hired as an intern under the Consultant modality.

The 2027 Winter Internship Program is a competitive paid opportunity, based in Headquarters, for university students from member countries to learn about development work and corporate management of the Bank, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job learning.

What you’ll do
  • Support the credit team in conducting credit assessments of treasury issuers, including financial analysis, research, and peer benchmarking.
  • Perform research on issuers, jurisdictions, markets, and regulatory developments to support credit risk assessments and portfolio monitoring.
  • Assist in the preparation of clear, concise, and well-structured credit reports, memoranda, and presentation materials.
  • Source, validate, and analyze financial, market, and economic data used in credit assessments and reporting.
  • Support the enhancement, automation, and maintenance of analytical tools, dashboards, and data processes using Excel, Power BI, Power Apps, and other internal platforms.
  • Undertake other tasks related to treasury credit risk analysis and analytical tool development, as assigned by the internship supervisor and senior team members.
What you'll need
  • Education: An active graduate student in Economics, Finance, Engineering or Business from an accredited University. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Languages: Fluency in English with a working knowledge of one other Bank language (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Result-driven, collaborative, innovative, client-oriented, strong communicator, self-motivated, eager to learn, and excellent time management skills.
  • Technical qualifications: Strong analytical and research skills, advanced knowledge of financial statement analysis, and a solid understanding of credit risk and financial markets. Familiarity with sovereign, financial institution, and corporate credit analysis is desirable. Working knowledge of credit rating methodologies and rating agency reports is a plus.
    • Software: Data visualization software (advanced Power Apps, Power BI, and Power Query), MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Copilot), SQL, and Programing skills (VBA or Python).
  • Active student: Enrolled in a graduate (master’s or Ph.D.) program as of the starting date of the internship program. The graduation date should be after the Internship period.
  • Consanguinity: Not have family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB or IDB Invest.
  • First job at the IDB Group: Be a first-time participant in an Internship Program held by the Bank or Inter-American Investment Corporation (“Corporation” also known as “IDB Invest”). In addition, you have not been a former staff member, Complementary Workforce (“CW”), contractor for the Bank or the Corporation, or have previously provided services to the Bank or the Corporation through a contractor or under any other contractual modality.

Notes:

  • You must be available to work full-time (40 hoursper week) fromJanuary 16thto March 15th, 2027. These dates are fixed and cannot bemodified. Interns must complete their assignments within this period.
  • If you are an international student in the U.S.A, your work authorization is through CPT or OPT. Consult your school advisor before applying. You must be able to work40 hoursperweek many international students are limited to working part-time, depending on their academic standing.
