Job summary

Beyond New Horizons (BNH) is seeking an Instrumentation, Data, and Controls (ID&C) Supervisor to lead a multi-disciplinary team at Arnold Air Force Base, TN. You will oversee 10–20 engineers and technicians, balancing technical delivery with people leadership in support of AEDC test facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronics/Optical Engineering from an accredited college or university plus 5 years of work experience in the design, maintenance, or system engineering of ID&C systems.
  • Or an Engineering Technology degree plus 5 years in ID&C systems and 2 additional years in engineering/technical design roles.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to Air Force security requirements at AEDC.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, execution, hazard analysis (SSHA), verification, and problem resolution for complex ID&C systems.
  • Provide senior technical guidance, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for engineering anomalies during active test operations.
  • Maintain configuration management and System Operating Criteria (SOC) for assigned test facilities.
  • Support systems engineering requirements and lifecycle sustainment for core data, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Provide direct line supervision, coaching, and mentorship for a team of 10 to 20 engineers and technicians.
  • Plan day-to-day task assignments, resolve operational roadblocks, and balance resources across projects.
  • Conduct performance tracking, goal development, and timecard approvals for annual reviews.
  • Manage crew training and mentorship to mitigate risks and support growth.

Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has multiple openings for Test Operations Engineer supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex at Arnold Air Force Base, TN. The Test Operations Engineers will be working as members of an integrated team responsible for operating and maintaining ground test facilities in support of the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Job Summary

The Instrumentation, Data, and Controls (ID&C) Supervisor is a working supervisor role balancing technical delivery with personnel leadership within the assigned test group. Deployed to Aerodynamics Test Facilities, this position oversees 10 to 20 multi-disciplinary engineers and technical specialists. The Supervisor serves as a liaison between DoD Test Squadron members, external test customers, and Test Operations and Sustainment (TOS) contractor organizations to ensure mission success across ground test operations, systems engineering, and facility sustainment.

This posting will fill current needs for an Instrumentation Supervisor in the Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel Facilities and an ID&C Supervisor in the Ballistic Ranges Test Facilities; however, these positions may be reassigned to other test facilities based on changing workload and other considerations.

This position requires flexible shift work to support varying mission-driven test schedules.

Job Duties:

Technical Leadership & Systems Engineering

  • Lead the planning, execution, hazard analysis (SSHA), verification, and problem resolution for complex facility ID&C systems.
  • Provide senior technical guidance, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis for engineering anomalies during active test operations.
  • Maintain configuration management, System Operating Criteria (SOC), and technical work instructions for assigned test facilities.
  • Support systems engineering requirements and lifecycle sustainment for core data, instrumentation, and control systems.

Workforce Management & Development

  • Provide direct line supervision, coaching, and mentorship for a team of 10 to 20 instrumentation, data acquisition, and/or control system engineers and technical specialists.
  • Plan day-to-day task assignments, resolve operational roadblocks, and balance engineering resources across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Conduct performance tracking, goal development, timecard approvals, and formal input for annual employee performance reviews.
  • Manage crew training, skill development, and mentor pairing to mitigate operational risks and support career growth.

Operations & Programmatic Oversight

  • Lead operations planning, scheduling, and work coordination activities for the ID&C test support team.
  • Manage operations, sustainment, and facility maintenance budgets, including labor forecasts and job-hour tracking.
  • Develop, track, and report TOS contract performance metrics and test facility operational milestones to program leadership.
  • Interface directly with DoD Test Squadron members, external test customers, and Test Operations and Sustainment (TOS) contractor organizations to align group priorities with mission objectives.
  • Exemplify the company core value and covenant of safety in all aspects of job including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with company policy.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or other engineering disciplines from an accredited college or university plus:
    • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in the design, maintenance, or system engineering of Instrumentation, Diagnostics, and Control (ID&C) systems.
  • OR an Engineering Technology degree plus:
    • A minimum of 5 years of work experience in the design, maintenance, or system engineering of Instrumentation, Diagnostics, and Control (ID&C) systems AND
    • An additional 2 years of experience in engineering or technical design roles.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to Air Force security requirements at AEDC.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science degree in engineering or technical management, or an active Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • 5+ years of direct ID&C systems experience within ground test operations, preferably in AEDC Flight Systems or Aeropropulsion Test Facilities.
  • Proven experience in frontline personnel supervision, conflict resolution, resource allocation, and project budget management.
  • Demonstrated history of formal mentorship and technical training of junior engineering personnel.
  • Active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Security Clearance.
