Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services seeks an Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) – Child Protective Service (CPS) Caseworker. This Social Service Specialist 1 position focuses on protecting American Indian and Alaska Native children and empowering families through culturally grounded care and partnerships with Tribes.

You will work in Multnomah County’s ICWA program, handling cases, preparing court reports, and engaging with tribal partners while upholding ODHS values of equity and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • Experience communicating effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience using computer software, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field, or equivalent combination as described in minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work on ICWA CPS cases involving American Indian and Alaska Native children and families.
  • Communicate and partner with Tribal entities, community partners, and culturally relevant service providers.
  • Provide Active Efforts to prevent placement of children in substitute care and pursue reunification.
  • Respond to reports of abuse or neglect and conduct family assessments using the Oregon Safety Model.
  • Prepare and present court reports and participate in CRB reviews and dependency hearings.
