Job summary

SnapCare seeks a Market Respiratory Therapist for a 13-week contract at a long-term acute care hospital in Milwaukee, WI. You will provide intensive respiratory care, patient transport, evaluation of patients, and plan treatments under minimal supervision.

The role covers ventilatory support, chest physiotherapy, airway management, monitoring, and CPR per BLS/ACLS guidelines. This position offers a short-term assignment with competitive hourly pay.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality patient care including intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility with minimal supervision
• Evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans
• Explain purpose and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provide patient education upon discharge
• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers
• Perform chest physiotherapy using various equipment to promote secretion clearance
• Perform patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
• Perform oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy
• Conduct routine review of patient chest X-rays to determine need for further evaluation
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition
• Perform pulmonary function studies including NIF and VC
• Assist with respiratory care procedures including bronchoscopy and chest tube placement
• Perform chest drainage via PleurX catheter or similar device
• Perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
• Perform arterial punctures and determine efficiency of ventilation while monitoring, recording, and reporting test results
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system
• Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation on various equipment
• Assist in facilitating preventative maintenance and repair of equipment as needed
• Record all pertinent treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient chart
• Communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding the efficiency of therapy administered
• Report necessary information during walking rounds for shift-to-shift handoff communication
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging including data entry, verification, and correction of errors
