Job summary

Aoka is hiring a Certified Building Official to lead a team of building inspectors and act as a subject matter expert for the sales team, ensuring high-quality construction and code compliance across the area.

You will supervise inspection programs, enforce codes, and guide diverse stakeholders including architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners while shaping company practices.

Qualifications

• ICC Certified Building Official (CBO) required; additional ICC certifications (Plans Examiner, Building Inspector) highly desirable.
• Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in building inspection.
• Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Supervise building inspectors and manage inspection programs
• Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the sales team
• Conduct client visits as needed for complex or escalated projects
• Administer and enforce municipal, state, and federal building codes, safety, energy, and accessibility standards
• Oversee issuance of building permits, plan approvals, occupancy certificates, and inspection reports
• Interpret complex codes and provide guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners
• Collaborate with fire, planning, zoning, engineering, and public works departments for coordinated code enforcement
• Manage appeals, code updates, and ordinance revisions
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on inspections, permitting, and code compliance
