Job Title: Z/OS System Programmer

Location: Jersey City, NJ - Hybrid - 2 days onsite

Type: Full Time

Salary: $125K- $165K base+ bonus

Role Overview

In this role, you will lead the delivery and lifecycle management of enterprise mainframe platforms, overseeing both hardware and software environments. You will drive modernization, innovation, and operational excellence while managing high-performing technical teams supporting critical z/OS systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee a broad portfolio of delivery projects supporting mainframe hardware and software lifecycle management.
• Manage teams responsible for administering multiple mainframe environments running on z/OS, leveraging technologies such as JCL, DB2, IMS, CICS, source code management tools, SDLC practices, and security frameworks (ACF2, RACF, TSS).
• Drive modernization initiatives by rethinking traditional service models and implementing innovative, automated, and scalable solutions.
• Partner with cross-functional teams including Data Center Services, Production Services, and Application Development to identify and shape new opportunities.
• Provide strategic leadership across the organization, fostering collaboration and alignment across business and technology stakeholders.
• Coach, mentor, and develop team members and managers, leveraging talent management processes to build a highly engaged and high-performing organization.
• Lead complex programs and projects, ensuring successful delivery and alignment with business objectives.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• Advanced certifications in infrastructure engineering or related disciplines (preferred)

Experience

• 10+ years of diverse experience in information technology
• Proven experience in mainframe environments, including infrastructure, system programming, or application development
• Experience leading technical teams and managing complex programs or projects
• Financial services or securities industry experience is a plus

• Strong expertise in infrastructure design, implementation, and architecture principles
• Deep understanding of mainframe technologies and environments
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
• Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts clearly across all organizational levels
• Experience managing across teams, functions, and client environments

Preferred Technical Expertise

• Knowledge in one or more mainframe disciplines
• ITIL / ITSM practices (Release, Change, CMDB)
• Installation and maintenance of IBM operating systems and ISV software
• z/OS, PARMLIB, Unix System Services, HCD
• SMP/E and maintenance processes
• JCL and system IPL processes
• ISPF / TSO
• Experience building and maintaining mainframe platforms and frameworks
• Familiarity with tooling, utilities, and data transport mechanisms

Estimated Min Rate: $125000.00

Estimated Max Rate: $165000.00
