Job summary

University of Minnesota seeks community faculty with expertise in substance use and co‑occurring disorders to educate in online and hybrid Master of Professional Studies programs. Teaching Specialists teach one to two courses per academic year, online, hybrid, or in person, under the Director of Graduate Programs in CCAPS.

The role emphasizes up-to-date content, licensing requirements, and inclusive education for diverse adult learners across multiple formats, with evenings/weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree is required.
• Graduate degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, mental health counseling, community counseling, counselor education or MSW from an accredited program.
• Minimum of 5 years in clinical practice and/or agency management with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
• Clinical or teaching experience in topics like co-occurring disorders, assessment and treatment planning, diagnostics, and human development.
• Commitment to inclusive excellence and serving a diverse learner community.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned course per university policies and use effective practices; provide clear instructions, samples, and timely feedback.
• Coordinate with program directors and faculty to integrate coursework and licensing requirements.
• Resolve course- or student-related issues in collaboration with program staff.
• Stay current with research, industry trends, ethics, and culturally sensitive counseling practices.
• Leverage new technologies to enhance curriculum delivery for working adults.
• Deliver content at scheduled times, including evenings and weekends, with prompt responses to inquiries.
• Collaborate with diverse groups of people to support student success.
