I&E Technician IV# I&E Technician IVTEP Rocky Mountain - Parachute, CO 81635## OverviewSalary Range$50.00 - $54.00 HourlyPosition TypeFull TimeEducation LevelHigh School## Description**Position Summary:**I & E Technician IV is the highest individual-contributor role within the Automation & Controls discipline at Flywheel Energy. This position demands the deepest technical expertise in the organization, an unwavering commitment to Flywheel’s culture and values, and a genuine dedication to training and growing the people around them. Technician IV is not only the foremost technical authority on instrumentation, control systems, and automation — they are a culture carrier, a developer of talent, and an organizational backbone who keeps maintenance, projects, and new equipment development moving forward in a coordinated way. Operating with full independence, this role owns the strategic direction of the instrumentation and controls program, leads capital project execution, drives enterprise-level reliability initiatives, and serves as the principal escalation point for the most complex technical challenges across the organization. Technician IV builds the team’s future through consistent example: modeling accountability, mentoring with purpose, assigning work with clarity, and creating an environment where everyone does their best work. **Key Responsibilities:*** Culture & Team Leadership: Champion Flywheel’s values at the highest level — model integrity, accountability, and excellence in every interaction; actively build and protect a team culture of safety, respect, and continuous improvement; act as the primary culture carrier for the Automation & Controls team and influence the broader organization through consistent behavior and technical credibility; identify and address cultural or behavioral issues early, mentoring toward alignment with Flywheel’s ways of working.* Training & Team Development: Take direct ownership of training and developing Technician I, II, and III personnel; design and maintain structured training programs, competency frameworks, and development plans tailored to each team member’s growth stage; dedicate consistent, intentional time to knowledge transfer — in the field, in the shop, and in formal settings; track individual progress and hold a high standard for competency before sign-off; treat growing the team as a core deliverable of this role, not a secondary responsibility.* Workload Organization & Task Assignment: Organize and assign work across the team with clarity and foresight — balancing daily maintenance demands, active project milestones, and new equipment development priorities; maintain visibility into each team member’s workload and adjust assignments to keep all three tracks progressing without dropping coverage; communicate priorities clearly, follow through on commitments, and hold the team accountable to deadlines; use available systems (Delivery Operator, project tracking tools) to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.* Technical Authority & Program Ownership: Serve as the principal technical resource and final escalation point for all instrumentation, control system, and automation issues across Flywheel operations; own the strategic direction and continuous improvement of the instrumentation and controls program; define, document, and enforce enterprise-wide technical standards.* Capital Project Leadership: Lead end-to-end execution of major capital automation and instrumentation projects, including scope development, engineering review, contractor management, commissioning, and closeout documentation; collaborate with operations and engineering teams on project planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.* New Equipment Development: Lead technical evaluation, specification, and integration of new instrumentation and automation equipment; coordinate across operations, engineering, and vendors to move new equipment from concept through field deployment; ensure new systems are documented, commissioned to standard, and that team members are trained before handoff to production.* PLC / SCADA Systems Ownership: Independently program, modify, and maintain PLC and SCADA systems across Flywheel platforms (Ignition, Cygnet, Allen-Bradley, ABB, Emerson); architect system-level improvements and integration solutions; review and approve all changes to production control systems made by Technician III and below.* Instrumentation & Calibration Program: Own and continuously optimize the enterprise preventive maintenance and calibration program; establish performance metrics and KPIs for instrumentation reliability; analyze field data to proactively identify systemic failure modes and drive long-term reliability improvements.* Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis: Lead investigation and resolution of the most complex, multi-system failures spanning PLCs, RTUs, SCADA, field instruments, and electrical systems; author formal root-cause analyses and corrective action plans; ensure lessons-learned are systematically incorporated into training materials and standards.* Documentation & Standards Governance: Own and govern the instrumentation and controls documentation library including as-built drawings, P&IDs, instrument data sheets, loop diagrams, control narratives, and I/O schedules; audit documentation quality across the team and drive continuous improvement in standards compliance.* Vendor & Contractor Management: Manage technical relationships with instrumentation, automation, and electrical vendors and contractors; review and approve technical submittals and contractor work products; negotiate technical scope with service providers to ensure quality and standards compliance.* Safety & Compliance: Champion site safety culture at the highest level; lead JSA development and pre-job briefings for complex, high-risk tasks; lead incident investigations and corrective action programs; ensure full compliance with company HSE policies, OSHA regulations, API standards, and applicable NFPA codes.* Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Identify, evaluate, and implement advanced process improvements in maintenance workflows, automation architecture, and control system performance; bring emerging technologies and industry best practices to Flywheel’s operations; contribute to long-range capital planning and technology roadmaps.## Qualifications**Minimum Qualifications:*** Demonstrated Flywheel cultural alignment: a track record of integrity, accountability, respect for teammates, and genuine investment in the success of others — this is a non-negotiable requirement at the Tech IV level.* Proven commitment to training and growing technical team members; demonstrated experience building structured training programs, tracking individual development, and transferring complex knowledge effectively in both field and classroom settings.* Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage recurring maintenance assignments, active project workloads, and new equipment development — keeping all three tracks moving with appropriate prioritization and clear communication.* Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams; experience identifying and addressing cultural and behavioral challenges constructively.* 7+ years of hands-on experience in industrial instrumentation, automation, or electrical work in an oil and gas environment, with demonstrated progression in technical scope and leadership responsibility.* Expert-level proficiency in process instrumentation including 4–20 mA, HART, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus, and digital bus protocols.* Demonstrated experience independently programming and modifying PLC and SCADA systems in a live operational environment, including Emerson FB107, Emerson FB3000, ABB (G3, G4, G5), Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation), and Ignition or Cygnet.* Expert proficiency with Modbus 485 (Modbus RTU over RS-485) and industrial radio communications including MDS, Inet, and Ubiquiti platforms.* Proven track record of leading multi-disciplined capital projects, managing vendors and contractors, and delivering technical programs on schedule and within budget.* Demonstrated experience developing and enforcing technical standards and owning enterprise-level instrumentation and controls documentation.* Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to travel regularly to field sites.**Preferred Qualifications:*** ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) Level III, or equivalent senior professional certification.* Advanced SCADA platform experience (Ignition or Cygnet) including system architecture, project-level configuration, scripting, and historian integration.* Experience with Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation), Siemens, or ABB PLC platforms at the project architect level.* Familiarity with NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E, API RP 505, and ISA-18.2 alarm management standards.* Experience contributing to capital budget development, AFE scoping, and technology roadmap planning.* Associate degree or higher in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field; bachelor’s degree preferred.**Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:*** Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding outdoor environments.* Comfortable working at heights and in adverse weather conditions.* Weekends, holidays, and callouts required to support operational needs.**Compensation & Benefits:**Flywheel Energy offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match; paid time off; and structured career development pathways.**Pay Range: $50-$54/hr****Position open through Friday September 18th**
