Job summary

Energy Transfer LP is seeking an Instrument & Electrical Technician to support construction, plant facilities, and field operations. The role involves installing, diagnosing, and maintaining SCADA systems, PLC/DCS controls, and electrical equipment across gas and liquid facilities and pipelines.

The candidate will also read and interpret P&ID drawings, perform calibrations, document performance, and ensure safety procedures including LOTO are followed.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to maintain motor controls, relay logic, RTUs, and I&E end-devices.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite including Outlook and Word.
  • Experience using In Touch Wonderware, FactoryTalk, RSLogix, or DeltaV for control solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of DOT 192, 193, and 195 with testing/documentation responsibilities.
  • Understanding of National Electric Code and OSHA 1910 relating to electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Install, diagnose, and maintain SCADA systems, plant, pipeline, and compressor instrument and electrical equipment.
  • Maintain pneumatic and intelligent instruments, electrical distribution, motor control gear, and related software.
  • Install, diagnose, and maintain PLC or DCS systems and process/safety controls.
  • Read and interpret manuals, drawings, and schematics including P&ID’s and electrical diagrams.
  • Test and document plant and compressor station control/safety devices per DOT/PSM requirements; keep PM frequencies current.
  • Provide on-call support and mentor less experienced staff.

Summary

This position provides instrument and electrical technical support to construction, plant facilities and field operations. It includes repair, installation, troubleshooting, and predictive and preventative maintenance on control systems, natural gas compression or pump stations, SCADA, and related equipment in gas and liquid facilities and pipelines. The role also inspects, troubleshoots, and maintains process control systems such as PLCs or DCS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install, diagnose, and maintain SCADA systems, plant, pipeline, and compressor instrument and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Install, diagnose, and maintain pneumatic and intelligent instruments, electrical distribution systems, motor control gear, and associated equipment software.
  • Install, diagnose, and maintain PLC or DCS systems and process or safety controls.
  • Read and interpret manuals, policy, engineering standards, regulations, drawings, and schematics, including electrical, pneumatic, and P&ID’s.
  • Test, calibrate, and document plant and compressor station control and safety devices according to DOT 192, DOT 193, DOT 195, or applicable PSM 1910 requirements; keep preventive maintenance frequencies current.
  • Participate in call-out/on-call requirements.
  • Actively participate in partnership safety programs and initiatives.
  • Perform specialized technical skills such as developing complex design projects, cost estimates, evaluating electrical systems, building and maintaining ESD systems, or maintaining gas turbine or skid unit control systems.
  • Provide work direction, oversight, and inspection of work performed by third-party contractors.
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to less qualified employees.
  • Provide accurate written and electronic reporting.
  • Comply with partnership safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO).
Required Education
  • High school diploma or GED.
Required Experience
  • Level C: 0–2 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Level B: 2–4 years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience.
  • Level A: 4+ years of relevant industry experience or equivalent work experience.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license with a demonstrated safe driving record.
  • Ability to maintain motor controls, relay logic, RTUs, and I&E associated end-devices.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Outlook and Word.
  • Experience using software to troubleshoot, design, or configure control solutions specific to In Touch Wonderware or Factory Talk, Allen Bradley RSLogix, or Delta V.
  • Extensive knowledge of DOT 192, DOT 193, and DOT 195 as it pertains to required testing and documentation for plants, compressor stations, pipelines, and facilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the National Electric Code and OSHA 1910 as it relates to electrical systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • State Electrical License.
  • Associate’s Degree in Instrumentation.
  • Related software and system certifications (e.g., Factory Talk, Delta V).
Working Conditions and Requirements
  1. Frequent exposure to heat, cold, and other adverse weather conditions.
  2. Repetitive standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching over shoulder height, and climbing ladders up to 25 feet; occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs with or without assistance.
  3. Possible work in confined spaces.
  4. Subject to call-outs to respond to operational issues and emergencies after working hours, at night, and on weekends and holidays.
  5. Work in and around industrial and construction settings that may include hazardous products, processes, materials, chemicals, extreme temperatures, loud machinery, and may require appropriate personal protective equipment.
  6. Reliable attendance at work.
  7. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
