Job summary

KODA Resources, LLC is seeking an I&E Tech II to support operations in the Uintah Basin. You will install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain electrical and automation systems, including SCADA, instrumentation, and RTU/PLC networks.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in instrumentation/electronics or related field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of oil and gas field automation experience is required.
  • Proficiency with SCADA platforms, PLC/RTU configuration, and troubleshooting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply understanding of electrical and instrumentation theory in oilfield environments.
  • Troubleshoot and repair RTUs, PLCs, instrumentation, communication equipment, and low-voltage systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 120VAC-480VAC electrical distribution systems, including VFDs, motors, transformers, and distribution centers.
  • Perform field diagnostics and maintain SCADA/automation system documentation.
  • Configure and calibrate field devices such as pressure, temperature, and level transmitters.
  • Assist in design and programming of automation logic for control and monitoring systems.
  • Support upgrades and expansion of field data collection networks.
  • Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and manuals.
  • Maintain safety procedures and electrical compliance; ensure facilities are safe and compliant.

Job description

SUMMARY

KODA Resources is looking for a skilled and dependable I&E Tech II to support operations in the Uintah Basin. This role is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance of electrical and automation systems, including SCADA, instrumentation, and RTU/PLC systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in oil and gas field automation and work effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure safe and efficient operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Apply a proficient understanding of electrical and instrumentation theory and practices in oilfield environments.
  • Troubleshoot and repair RTUs, PLCs, instrumentation, communication equipment, and low-voltage systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 120VAC-480VAC electrical distribution systems, including VFDs, Motors, Transformers, and Power Distribution Centers.
  • Perform field diagnostics and maintain accurate SCADA and automation system documentation.
  • Configure and calibrate field devices such as pressure, temperature, and level transmitters.
  • Assist in the design and programming of automation logic for control and monitoring systems.
  • Support upgrades and expansion of field data collection networks.
  • Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, loop drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Maintain compliance with company and regulatory safety procedures during installation and repair.
  • Ensure existing and new facilities are electrically safe and compliant with applicable codes and standards.
  • Identify and recommend optimization opportunities to reduce downtime or improve performance.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and I&E teams to ensure system integrity.
  • Maintain detailed records of completed work, including troubleshooting logs and device configurations.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safe work practices and job site housekeeping.
  • May assist with on-call support, system commissioning, and third-party interface projects.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • May mentor less experienced technicians or assist with contractor coordination during projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Strong technical understanding of field automation, electrical, communication networks, and control systems.
  • The ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with Emerson ROC800 and FB107 RTUs, Ignition, Allen Bradley PLCs, Opto22 EPIC PLCs, CODESYS programming, Thermofisher Autopilots, Redlion HMIs, and Xetawave radios.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and documentation systems).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of oil and gas field automation experience required.
  • Proficiency with SCADA platforms, PLC/RTU configuration, and troubleshooting preferred.

LANGUAGE AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Ability to write reports, complete documentation, and communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.
  • Works well both independently and within multi-disciplined teams.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to assess automation issues, determine root cause, and apply logical troubleshooting steps.
  • Strong decision-making skills with attention to detail and safety.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATION

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician strongly preferred.
  • H2S, First Aid/CPR, and PEC Safeland certifications required or ability to obtain.
