Job summary

Williams is seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Operations Technician III/Sr. to join a safety-focused team in Maryland. You will work to maximize equipment reliability, mentor peers, and tackle complex control system issues across facilities.

The role emphasizes troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation and electrical systems, with opportunities to lead upgrades and commissioning efforts while upholding technical standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required with 3+ years in operations, engineering, or energy.
  • Preferred: 2-year technical/associate degree with 5+ years in operations, engineering, or energy.
  • Preferred: 5 years of I&E experience including troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance, with low-voltage electrical work in an industrial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex maintenance and operational tasks with gas process equipment.
  • Minimizes unplanned shutdowns through root cause analyses and corrective actions.
  • Mentors teammates and shares findings with safety-focused approach.
  • Fixes and maintains process control systems and instrumentation.
  • Defines scope and instrumentation specs for new projects with project managers.
  • Acts as SME for instrumentation, electrical, PLC, and control systems across facilities.
  • Leads major system upgrades and commissioning while adhering to standards.
  • Drives continuous improvement in instrumentation, electrical, and automation systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

As Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Operations Technician III/Sr., you’ll work with a team of safety-focused technicians to maximize equipment reliability and availability. Mentoring team mates, solving sophisticated problems efficiently, and attention to detail are keys to success in this role!

Responsibilities/Expectations:
  • Performs complex maintenance and operational tasks with all natural gas process related equipment and systems
  • Minimizes unplanned shutdowns through root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions
  • Partners with supervisors and managers to share findings, root causes, and resolutions to with a focus on improved safety
  • Fixes and maintains process control systems
  • Partners with projects managers to define scope and instrumentation specifications for new projects
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for instrumentation, electrical, PLC, and control systems across assigned facilities or operating areas
  • Develops and implements solutions for complex control system, instrumentation, and electrical issues to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency
  • Leads major system upgrades, control system integrations, and commissioning efforts while ensuring adherence to technical standards and best practices
  • Mentors technicians and drives continuous improvement initiatives related to instrumentation, electrical, and automation systems
  • Other duties as assigned
Education/Years of Experience:
  • Required: High School Diploma/GED and minimum of three (3) years’ experience in operations, engineering, or the energy industry
  • Preferred: Associates or 2-year technical degree and minimum five (5) years’ experience in operations, engineering, or the energy industry
  • Preferred: Five (5) years of Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) experience, including instrumentation troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance, with experience performing low-voltage electrical work in an industrial environment
  • Preferred: Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC systems, including programming, troubleshooting, and diagnostics, with the ability to support and maintain automated control systems

Physical and Environment Work Requirements:

The ability to:

  • Work in extreme temperatures, with loud noises and in enclosed spaces
  • Carry or lift items up to 50 lbs and team lift loads of more than 50 lbs as needed
  • Stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and squat, often for long periods of time
  • Work at elevated levels, potentially from man lifts, ladders, scaffolding, and/or small towers, with appropriate PPE (Personal Protection Equipment)
  • Use hand tools
Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements:
  • Available to work after hours, on-call rotations, nights, weekend shifts and holiday as the need arises
  • May be required to work overtime and works a 10-hour Monday- Thursday schedule
Other Requirements:
  • Must possess valid State Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Demonstrates aptitude and ability to embrace technology and applications to drive operational efficiency and streamline processes
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Needs basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Application and PC skills
  • Previous experience working in an environment with gas-plant operations, gas compression and/or liquid or gas gathering processes
  • Previous experience in the mechanical, electrical, and/or maintenance industry
