Job summary

Shell seeks an Instrumentation and Electrical Maintenance Technician to perform troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of instrument and electrical systems in a plant environment. The role requires reading control drawings, maintaining safety and equipment performance, and providing feedback to improve maintenance plans.

Preferred candidates have an Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance or related military maintenance training, 3+ years in instrumentation/electrical crafts, and experience

What’s the role

As an Instrumentation and Electrical Maintenance Technician, your responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following in accordance with relevant codes.

Accountabilities

• Troubleshooting DCS (Digital Control System) control interfaces; level, flow, and pressure measurement equipment; vibration measurement instrumentation; low, medium, and high voltage equipment; and power generation and distribution equipment
• Read and understand piping/instrument and electrical drawings of instrumentation, control, power, and metering circuitry
• Remove, repair, maintain, and test emergency shutdown valves and control valves
• Understanding of proper application of pressure-rated piping/tubing fittings associated with various equipment (manual sample stations, control valves, instrumentation, etc.)
• Diagnose and apply results using various test equipment
• Apply Electrical Safety Rules in accordance with site and OSHA standards
• Record work history and submit feedback for continuous improvement of maintenance plans, policies, and procedures
• Troubleshoot and repair instrument or electrical systems
• Perform routine installation and calibration of instrument or electrical systems
• Ability to perform reactive or preventative maintenance of instrument or electrical systems and components

Work Schedule

9/80 base work schedule with varied schedules depending on worksite demand

Certain plant conditions will require night shift, weekends, and holidays (turnarounds, outages, major plant activities, production support, etc.)

What We Need From You

• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship or a work visa.
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently and understand operating procedures
• Must possess and maintain a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
• Willing to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation
• Willing to work in compact and confined spaces with or without accommodation
• Willing to climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heights with or without accommodation
• Must be willing to work in an environment that requires the daily use of computers (i.e., iOS, MS Suite, SAP)
• Must be willing to be trained and maintain certification to operate motorized lifting equipment such as man-lifts, cranes, trucks, forklifts, etc. to support craft activities.
• Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining lifting and hoisting certifications as applicable to the instrumentation and electrical craft.
• Must be willing to respond to emergencies, successful candidates must reside within 60 minutes of the site, or be willing to relocate to within 60 minutes of the site without relocation assistance
• Willing to work holidays, nights, and weekends and overtime supporting run and maintain schedules, holdovers, outages, turnarounds, etc.
• Willing to be on call and meet call‑out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies
• As a part of the pre‑employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre‑employment background, medical, and reference checks, including hair & fluid (saliva or urine) drug testing
• Willing to support the company's drug‑free work environment, which will include random drug/alcohol screenings
• Willing to take and achieve satisfactory results on Shell’s pre‑employment testing battery
• With proper training, willing and able to lift 40 lbs with or without accommodation, and able to use safe lifting techniques with the use of heavy equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in Instrumentation or Electrical craft disciplines
• Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance
• Completion of a Military Maintenance School program
• Experience troubleshooting and operating Process Control Systems (PCS) or Distributed Control Systems (DCS); experience with Emerson DeltaV
• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting process instrumentation, including pressure, flow, temperature, custody transfer, and weighing systems
• Experience installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fire and gas detection systems; Det‑Tronics experience
• Experience installing, testing, and troubleshooting PLCs, including ladder logic modifications (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens PCS7, GE Mark VII)
• Experience troubleshooting, calibrating, and repairing control valves, positioners, and actuators
• Experience creating and installing tubing runs using Swagelok or Parker systems
• Strong working knowledge of HART‑based communicators and instrumentation

What we offer

The rate for this position is $41.77 – $55.35. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, and internal equity.

For regular full‑time or regular part‑time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs.

Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan.

Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non‑birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short‑term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long‑Term Disability insurance.

Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long‑term incentives.

For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
