Job summary

OGE Energy Corp. is seeking a skilled Instrumentation & Controls technician to maintain and calibrate plant control systems. This role supports efficient power generation under varying conditions and will be posted for Level I/II eligibility.

The candidate will troubleshoot PLC/DC systems and HMIs, perform testing on safety systems, and document calibration results. This position requires flexibility to work in a multi-craft crew and may involve overtime, on-call duties, and working at heights

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent experience in instrumentation & controls.
  • 1 year of experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls for Level I.
  • 1 year of Instrumentation & Controls experience for Level II if paired with a technical degree.
  • Certificate from a vocational program in Instrumentation & Controls.
  • Military service documented on DD Form 214 may be substituted for experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot process and safety instrumentation for power generation.
  • Schedule and coordinate daily activities with supervisor.
  • Provide troubleshooting and programming modifications for PLC/DC systems and HMI systems.
  • Test process instruments and safety systems (ESD, fire, gas).
  • Prepare calibration/testing reports for documentation.

JOB SUMMARY

** This job is being posted across two skill levels (Level I and Level II). Applicants will be considered only for the higher of the two levels in which they qualify. **
Maintains, calibrates and troubleshoots power plant control systems in support of efficient generation of power under varying conditions.

LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Performs responsibilities with standardized processes. Works under general supervision. Resolves routine questions and problems using basic principles of field. Refers the more complex issues to higher levels. Generally follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job. Some latitude for deviation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs general maintenance, configuration and calibration of process and safety instrumentation utilized in the multitude of processes involved in electrical generation.
  • Schedules and coordinates daily activities with supervisor.
  • Provide general troubleshooting and programming modifications for Programmable Logic Control/Distributed Control Systems and HMI systems.
  • Perform required testing of various process instruments and safety systems such as ESD, fire detection and gas detection systems.
  • Completes and publishes calibration and testing reports for documentation purposes.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains all AC/DC control circuits and components.
  • All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS

LEVEL I

  • Associate's Degree in a technical discipline; Or
  • High School Diploma/GED And 1 year experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls, Or
  • A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in a Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls field, Or
  • Prior military service for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214.

LEVEL II

  • Associate's Degree in a technical discipline, And 1 year experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls; Or
  • High School Diploma/GED And 3 years experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls; Or
  • Prior military experience for at least one enlistment as documented on DD Form 214 and 2 years experience in Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls.
  • A certificate of completion from a vocational trade institution in an Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls field is equivalent to 1 year of Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls experience.
  • Experience must include 1 year Instrumentation & Controls/Industrial Controls experience in a power plant or other process controlled environment including oil/gas/chemical refining and/or processing or manufacturing.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to work non-standard work schedules to include on-call and call-outs.
  • May be required to work at heights up to and exceeding thirty (30) feet, underground and in confined spaces.
  • May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
  • Required to work in a multi-craft crew including Mechanics, Electricians, Insulators, Instrument & Controls Technicians, and Machinist who work together to support the operations of the plant.
  • May be required to cross-train in various crafts and operation departments at various times of the year.
  • May work under hazardous conditions where physical danger exists due to mechanical equipment.

  • Demonstrated strong ability to comply with safety policies and seen as a leader in IIF (Incident and Injury Free).
  • Strong knowledge of fundamental instrumentation and control concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance, testing, installation and repair of many types of instrumentation and control components.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at various levels throughout the organization.
  • Basic computer skills using MS Office.
  • Strong knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers/Distributed Control Systems and Human Machine Interface equipment and the ability to make minor programming changes under engineering guidance.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed instrumenation and control drawings.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand tools.
  • Ability to take on additional responsibility.
  • Strong knowledge of AC/DC control circuits and components.

SALARY RANGE

Level I: $62,587 - $78,333
Level II: $75,046 - $93,746
