ZAP Engineering & Construction Services, Inc. is seeking an entry‑level Instrumentation & Controls Engineer I to join our Engineering team in Lakewood, Colorado.

This full‑time role reports to the I&C Engineering Supervisor and requires hands‑on I&C tasks with guidance from senior engineers. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering and up to 3 years of experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 0–3 years of experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; problem-solving ability.
  • Experience with HYSYS, Unisim, ProMax and/or VMG Symmetry; proficient in MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Produces I&C engineering deliverables defined by the RACI in accordance with company standards.
  • Collaborates with project team on interdisciplinary technical deliverables.
  • Communicates project progress and status of I&C deadlines in meetings and reviews.
  • Reviews deliverables with peers/supervisors to ensure QA/QC procedures are followed.
  • Participates in department meetings and training; assists with other duties as needed.

About Your Role

The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer is a hands-on, full-time position with day-to-day duties responsible for completing well-defined I&C engineering tasks with frequent technical oversight and guidance from more experienced engineers and supervisor(s).

Essential Duties And Major Responsibilities

  • Produces I&C engineering deliverables defined by the RACI (responsible, accountable, consulted and informed) in alignment with company standards and procedures.
  • Collaborates with project team members on interdisciplinary technical deliverables, as defined by the RACI.
  • Collaborates and communicates with the project team regarding overall project progress and status of I&C-specific deadlines and deliverables through internal/external kickoff meetings, weekly status meetings, lead reports, design review meetings, and model review meetings.
  • Conducts technical collaboration by reviewing deliverables with peers and supervisors as questions arise and ensuring quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) procedures are performed on deliverables generated.
  • Participates in department meetings and training, as required.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours vary and are dependent on business needs.

40 Hour Work Week

Monday through Friday, hours may vary with the workload.

Evenings/Weekends/OT

As needed to satisfy the requirements of the position.

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.

This role will collaborate with the project team(s) to complete deliverables as assigned by the project manager or project engineer, in alignment with the project schedule, budget, and scope of work.

Develops industry knowledge and skillset through completion of technical deliverables associated with projects by reviewing calculations, design guidelines, and industry standards for understanding and comprehension, as well as increases understanding while picking up redlines and QA/QC comments on deliverables.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability of basic leadership skills and general experience with leading work groups or task forces in specific projects.
  • Experience with HYSYS, Unisim, ProMax, and/or VMG Symmetry and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to self-direct and have a sense of responsibility for own tasks, deliverables, and timelines.

Supervisory Expectations

  • The position does not have any regular responsibility for overseeing or supervising the work of other team members.

Independence of Action

  • Work is closely monitored by supervisor/manager/leader; detailed instructions and procedures are generally provided.
