Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for the safe and reliable operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a power generation facility utilizing GE 7EA and GE 7HA gas turbine technology. Performs plant operations and instrumentation/control maintenance, including equipment rounds, startups and shutdowns, troubleshooting of alarms and process issues, calibration and repair of field instrumentation, control system support, and maintenance of associated balance-of-plant equipment. Works collaboratively to maximize plant safety, reliability, availability, and efficiency while maintaining compliance with operating procedures and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on the plant instrumentation, control, electrical and mechanical systems with minimum supervision, including weekends, holidays, and scheduled shifts.
  • Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting and resolution of plant instrumentation, control, electrical and mechanical systems issues.
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC circuit theory, analog and digital circuit theory, electrical/electronic controls, basic mechanics and power plant cycle/process fundamentals.
  • Inspect, repair, install and remove various types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, motor control equipment, cabling, buss work and storage batteries, and work within electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts.
  • Maintain and calibrate all plant instrumentation to provide reliable information to operations and support personnel.
  • Document and maintain records of instrumentation, control, electrical and mechanical maintenance history.
  • Maintains CEMS (Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems) in accordance with state and federal compliance guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair plant electronic, pneumatic systems, analyzers, facility computers, process control/PLC equipment and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of power plant mechanical equipment as well as safety policies and procedures, especially in the areas of LOTO, chemical handling, heavy equipment, rotating machinery, confined spaces.
  • Experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of rotating equipment including pumps, mechanical seals, gas and steam turbines, generators, fans, bearings, gaskets, couplings, alignment, etc.).
  • Knowledge of wet compression systems
  • Must be able to locate, trouble-shoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment.
  • Use of Human Performance Improvement (HPI) Tools, safe work controls, energy isolation (LOTO) and maintenance planning practices.
Requirements

High school graduate or GED required, trade school, related military service training programs or technical training school programs preferred.

Must have knowledge of Safety and Environmental rules as they relate to power generation.

Capable of frequently standing; walking; sitting; climbing; stooping and crouching; kneeling; reaching; pushing; pulling; grasping; talking; lifting and hearing

The job also requires carrying, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.

Worker will be exposed to temperatures greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit; equipment noise greater than 85 dbl; and hazards such as high-pressure systems.

The job requires the ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions while exposed to heat, cold, operating machinery, energized wires, loud noise, dust, grease, oil and fumes.

Capable of using computer, telephone, radio, hand-held tools, power equipment, etc.

Must be able to frequently climb stairs; climb ladders to and work from elevated platforms and walkways at elevations of 75 feet or more.

Will be required to occasionally work in tight and confined spaces. Ability to enter and work in a confined space.

Personal protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, chemical suits, and high voltage protective equipment).

Ability to work call out maintenance.

Ability to hear audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment, and portable radio communication.

Ability to perform first aid and CPR.

Must be available and able to work overtime as assigned.

Position Level

Education

High school graduate or GED minimum, trade school, related military service training programs or technical training school programs 4-6 years or more maintenance experience in power generation facilities or similar industrial facilities and field is preferred. Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools. Must have knowledge of Safety and Environment rules as they relate to power generation. Familiarity with Maximo preferred.
