Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Flight Systems Engineer to develop and integrate algorithms for end-to-end mission planning of current and future strategic systems. This role requires strong mathematical, modeling and systems integration expertise and cross-team collaboration.

You will design mission planning algorithms for hypersonic and ballistic weapons, ensure integration of modifications into navigation architectures, and communicate results to sponsors

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years in early concept development, system requirements and design trades.
  • 2 years in C++, MATLAB, or Python programming.
  • Able to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date; eligible for Top Secret.
  • U.S. citizenship required for access to classified information.

Responsibilities

  • Support system-level modeling and evaluation of existing strategic systems using rigorous mathematical approaches.
  • Develop mission planning algorithms for hypersonic and ballistic systems.
  • Integrate system modifications into navigation architectures and mission planning approaches.
  • Collaborate with sponsors and external partners to develop concepts of operations for advanced tech.
  • Document and present results to sponsors and external stakeholders.
