Job summary

Community Health Connections in Fitchburg, MA is seeking a Dental Hygienist to join our team of compassionate healthcare professionals in a Federally Qualified Health Center.

You will work under the supervision of a Site Clinical Director, performing preventive dental care, patient education, and basic restorative tasks as part of a collaborative team. A DA/DH degree and current licensure are required, with benefits including generous PTO, insurance, and retirement options.

Qualifications

  • Proficient reading, writing, and speaking in English.
  • Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygiene School.
  • National and State certification required.
  • One year of similar work, internship, or volunteer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare operatory for patient care by cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining equipment; sterilize and sharpen equipment.
  • Greet patients and make them feel at ease.
  • Record medical/dental histories and update patient charts.
  • Expose and develop x-ray films.
  • Perform full mouth periodontal probing or PSR and document findings.
  • Provide patient education to improve oral health.
  • Apply sealants and fluoride as prescribed.
  • Prioritize tasks and seek guidance when needed.
  • Support efficiency improvements in daily operations.

The Dental Hygienist works under the supervision of a Site Clinical Director. The Dental Hygienist performs dental measures designed to preserve teeth and prevent the spread of disease. Provides oral health education to patients by performing the some but not limited to following duties.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare operatory for patient care by cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining equipment, sterilizing and sharpening equipment.
  • Greet the patient, making them feel at-ease and comfortable.
  • Take and record medical and dental histories and updated personal information in patient’s chart.
  • Expose and develop x-ray films.
  • Make intra oral impressions for study casts.
  • Pour study models, trim, make bleaching trays. Dispense bleach and inform proper usage to patient.
  • Perform full mouth periodontal probing or PSR on initial and appropriate subsequent visits. Record findings; note bleeding mobility, furcae involvement and tissue tone in patient’s chart.
  • Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth supra and sub-gingivally.
  • Scaling Root Planning and Periodontic maintenance cleanings, determine whether patient needs 3, 4 or 6-month recall.
  • Apply fluorides and other decay preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
  • Polish and floss teeth
  • Remove excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.
  • Provide clinical services and health education to improve and maintain oral health such as brushing, flossing, and other plaque control methods.
  • Apply sealant to the surfaces of teeth per diagnosis of dentist.
  • Prioritize activities and assignments as to their relative importance.
  • Exercise care in the completion of work assignments and request direction when needed.
  • Implement improvement measures and suggests ways to improve efficiency of operation and working conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited Dental Hygiene School
  • Successful completion of the National and State examination with Certification
  • One (1) similar work, internship or volunteer experience year experience required.
  • Proficient reading, writing, and speaking in English.
