Job summary

Market 36 Recruitment are seeking a Hygiene Operative for a Halstead-based site. You will uphold high hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety standards across production and surrounding areas, supporting the site’s operations.

The role runs Monday to Friday, 2:00pm–10:00pm with weekends free, offering a balanced lifestyle. You will follow company procedures, complete hygiene records, and assist production teams as required.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine cleaning across production, office, storage, welfare, and external areas.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping to ensure a safe, hygienic working environment.
• Collect, segregate, and dispose of waste using site equipment.
• Clean and maintain welfare facilities including canteens, toilets, and locker rooms.
• Complete cleaning schedules, hygiene records, and documentation accurately and on time.
• Follow procedures regarding chemical handling, PPE, allergen control, and food safety.
• Report contamination risks or hygiene concerns promptly to the Hygiene Supervisor or Manager.

Market 36 Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Hygiene Operative on behalf of our client based in Halstead.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business where you will play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety across the site. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring production, office, welfare, and external areas remain clean, safe, and compliant with company procedures.

The Role

As a Hygiene Operative, you will be responsible for maintaining exceptional hygiene standards throughout the site, supporting food safety, product quality, and health and safety requirements. This is a Monday to Friday position, working 2:00pm until 10:00pm, offering a great work-life balance with weekends free.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine and scheduled cleaning across production, office, storage, welfare, and external site areas.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping to ensure a safe and hygienic working environment.
• Collect, segregate, and dispose of waste using site equipment, including compactors and balers.
• Clean and maintain welfare facilities, including canteens, toilets, locker rooms, and communal areas.
• Complete deep cleaning and specialist cleaning tasks as required.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, including floor scrubbers, steam cleaners, pressure washers, and vacuum cleaners.
• Report equipment faults, maintenance issues, and any health and safety concerns.
• Complete cleaning schedules, hygiene records, and documentation accurately and on time.
• Follow company procedures regarding chemical handling, PPE, allergen control, and food safety.
• Report contamination risks, damage, or hygiene concerns promptly to the Hygiene Supervisor or Manager.
• Support production teams with hygiene requirements throughout the shift.
• Maintain clean and tidy yard and external areas.
• Provide cover for other hygiene team members when required.
• Undertake any additional duties as requested by management.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will:

• Have previous experience in a hygiene, cleaning, manufacturing, food production, or industrial environment (preferred but not essential).
• Be reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in maintaining high standards.
• Be able to follow written procedures and complete documentation accurately.
• Understand the importance of health & safety and food hygiene standards.
• Be flexible with duties and willing to support different areas of the business when required.
