Heartland Dental is seeking an Experienced Hygiene Assistant in Suffolk, VA to support our hygiene team and deliver excellent patient care. On-the-job training will provide extensive hands-on experience and a path for future growth within our organization.

You will work closely with our hygiene providers, learn state-of-the-art procedures, and participate in a team-focused environment that puts patients first. This role emphasizes learning, safety protocols, and professional development.

Qualifications

• 1+ year dental experience.
• VA X-ray certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Team player and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• HIPAA training and PHI safeguards.

Responsibilities

• Greet and welcome patients from the start of their dental journey and provide education.
• Review patient health history to ensure quality care.
• Assist hygienists during procedures with confidence and professionalism.
• Set up hygiene rooms and stock supplies for visits.
• Use Dentrix for scheduling and record keeping.
• Prepare treatment rooms with adherence to safety protocols (OSHA) and CDC guidelines.
• Collaborate with providers to maximize office workflow.

More About The Role

• Greet and welcome patients from the start of their dental journey, as well as sustain patient comfort and provide appropriate education throughout treatment.
• Conduct a thorough review of the patient’s health history to provide quality care.
• Provide superior assistance to supported hygienists during a wide variety of procedures in accordance with the state dental practice act.
• Assist with setting up rooms for all hygiene visits including stocking and restocking instruments and supplies
• Utilize Dentrix for patient scheduling and record keeping.
• Prepare treatment room with strict adherence to safety protocols and following OSHA & CDC recommendations
• Partner with the providers and team to follow office systems and maximize office workflow.

Minimum Qualifications-

• 1+ years dental experience
• VA X-ray certification
• High school graduate or GED Equivalent
• Team Player
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced customer‑focused environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• The position will have access to minimum PHI necessary for performing job‑related functions; regular HIPAA training, aligning with the specific role and responsibilities, will be required; and the individual will need to protect PHI and maintain data safeguards.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting and standing.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds at times.
• Availability to attend virtual training sessions (or in‑person) periodically throughout the year.

This is a standard requirement for dental office roles and must be completed prior to starting employment. The test will be arranged during the pre‑employment process, and any necessary guidance or paperwork will be provided. Not applicable in the state of FL & TN.
