Job summary

Driven Services, LLC is seeking a Hydrovac Technician to support vacuum excavation operations. This role is labor-intensive and requires high situational awareness to daylight and non-destructive digging near sensitive underground infrastructure.

You will assist with rigging, operate high-pressure water wands, and help manage site safety and equipment maintenance. Outdoor, physically demanding work with long shifts is common.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; CDL a plus.
  • Ability to lift up to 65 lbs.
  • Willingness to obtain required safety and compliance training/certifications.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to assist with truck maintenance and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Rig up and down the truck; assemble hoses, booms, attachments.
  • Operate high-pressure water wands and guide vacuum tubes.
  • Deploy traffic controls to maintain a secure work zone.
  • Perform daily cleaning and basic maintenance of hoses and cyclones.
  • Maintain an accurate daily inventory of tools and supplies.

Position Summary: The Hydrovac Technician provides essential support in the safe and efficient execution of vacuum excavation activities. This role is labor-intensive and requires high situational awareness to assist with daylighting and non-destructive digging near sensitive underground infrastructure.

Core Responsibilities
  • Rigging & Mobilization: Assist the Operator with rigging up and down the truck; manage the assembly of hoses, booms, and attachments.
  • Excavation Support: Operate high-pressure water wands and guide vacuum dig tubes to expose utilities without causing damage.
  • Site Setup: Deploy traffic control measures, including cones, barricades, and signage, to maintain a secure work zone.
  • Equipment Care: Perform daily cleaning and basic maintenance of hoses, filters, and cyclones; conduct visual inspections for wear or damage.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate daily inventory of all tools and supplies on the unit.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is mandatory; a CDL is a plus.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to lift up to 65 lbs. and work in demanding outdoor environments.
  • Safety Certifications: Willingness to obtain required safety and compliance training/certifications.
  • Technical Aptitude: Basic mechanical knowledge to assist with truck maintenance and troubleshooting.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with site supervisors and team members.
  • A clean driving record and a commitment to “Zero Harm” safety cultures.
  • Knowledge of underground utility locating and soil types.
Physical Requirements
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to manipulate high-pressure water wands and heavy vacuum hoses for extended periods.
  • Heavy Lifting: Regularly lifting and carrying equipment, manhole covers, or debris weighing up to 50–80 lbs.
  • Mobility: Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing on and off the truck or into trenches.
  • Visual & Auditory Acuity: Sharp vision for spotting underground utilities and clear hearing to monitor equipment sounds and verbal safety cues.
  • Stamina: Capacity to perform repetitive physical labor for shifts that often exceed 10–12 hours.
Working Conditions
  • Outdoor Exposure: Constant work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, freezing temperatures, rain, and snow.
  • Noise Levels: Constant exposure to high-decibel noise from the truck engine and vacuum blower (hearing protection required).
  • Hazardous Environments: Potential exposure to dust, mud, fumes, and hazardous materials or chemicals depending on the job site.
  • Variable Shifts: Availability for early morning starts, night shifts, and on-call emergency response.
  • Travel: Frequent travel to various remote or urban job sites, sometimes requiring overnight stays.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Operators are required to always wear industry-standard safety gear, including:

  • Steel-toed boots (often metatarsal or waterproof).
  • Hard hat and safety glasses/face shield.
  • High-visibility (FR) clothing.
  • Hearing protection and heavy-duty gloves.
