Job summary

Weston & Sampson seeks a Hydrologist with 0–5 years of experience for our Water discipline in New England offices. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, urban stormwater, and a passion for environmental design.

You will analyze watersheds, rivers, and lakes; model BMPs and green infrastructure; prepare LOMR applications; and work with HydroCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and PCSWMM. Some travel to client sites is required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field required.
  • MS is a plus.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling required.
  • Experience with GIS analyses and mapping required.
  • Interest in surface water hydrology and hydraulics.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze surface water systems including watersheds, rivers, and lakes.
  • Model and design stormwater BMPs, green infrastructure, and LID.
  • Prepare Letters of Map Revision applications.
  • Use HydroCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and PCSWMM for modeling.
  • Work independently and communicate results to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prepare clear written and verbal summaries for technical and lay audiences.
  • Conduct fieldwork to gather measurements and observations.
  • Travel to client meetings and project sites in New England and mid-Atlantic/Carolinas.

Job description

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Hydrologist with 0-5 years of experience for our Water discipline in one of our New England offices. The Hydrologist will have experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, ideally with a focus on urban stormwater.

What you’ll do:
  • Conduct analyses and computer-aided evaluations of surface water systems, including watersheds, rivers, and lakes.
  • Model and support design of stormwater BMPs, green infrastructure, and LID projects.
  • Prepare Letter of Map Revision applications.
  • Become proficient with software such as HydroCAD, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and PCSWMM.
  • Work independently and effectively communicating results to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prepare clear and concise written and verbal summaries of technical material for both technical and lay audiences.
  • Conduct field work to gather measurements, survey, and other observations to support surface water model development.
  • Some travel will be required to client meetings and project sites within New England and the mid-Atlantic and Carolinas.
What you’ll bring:
  • BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or similar degree is required.
  • MS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, or similar degree is a plus.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability to pass exam within the first six months of employment is preferred.
  • Experience with hydrologic (HydroCAD, HEC-HMS) and hydraulic modeling (HEC-RAS, SWMM) is required.
  • Experience with GIS analyses and mapping is required.
  • Experience modeling and designing stormwater BMPs is a plus.
  • Experience modeling and designing green infrastructure and LID projects is a plus.
  • Successful candidates will have 0 to 5 years of experience and have a general familiarity with surface water hydrology and hydraulics.
  • Must have an interest in the evaluation and computer-aided modeling of surface water systems, including watersheds, rivers, and lakes.
  • Must be willing to collaborate remotely with coworkers in other office locations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational/time management skills are required.
  • Some travel will be required to client meetings and project sites within New England.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Salary Range: $54,000 - $68,000 based on education
