Dewberry Engineers Incorporated seeks an experienced Hydrologist to join our Resilience Solutions Group in Orlando, FL. The role focuses on inland hydrology, hydrometeorology, and data-driven resilience projects for federal, state, and local clients.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in hydrology, statistics, risk analysis, GIS, and Python, and will work with a multidisciplinary team on complex water resources projects.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in civil engineering with a concentration in water resources or atmospheric science
• 5+ years of experience in hydrologic modeling in the industry
• Expertise with hydrologic models such as HEC-HMS, WRF-Hydro, SWAT, VIC, PRMS, HSPF; HEC-HMS experience strongly preferred
• Experience obtaining, manipulating, and validating meteorological data from diverse sources
• Familiarity with Bulletin 17C flood frequency guidance and HEC-SSP usage
• Knowledge of statistical modeling and simulation for hydrologic/atmospheric data
• GIS experience for visualization and QC of geospatial data
• Python coding capability
• Strong technical writing and communication skills

This role focuses on advancing the state of the science in inland hydrology and hydrometeorology to improve water resources engineering, planning, and design. The ideal candidate will apply deep technical expertise in hydrology, statistics, and risk analysis to design and develop advanced scientific workflows and cloud-based systems. They will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, planners, and software developers to deliver impactful, data-driven resilience solutions for federal, state, and local clients.

Responsibilities

• Leverage expertise in hydrologic analysis to lead or support technical needs of diverse projects across the municipal, state, and federal markets.
• Lead or contribute to the development of analytical approaches to meet project requirements.
• Productively collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and scientists for integrated project delivery.

Required Skills & Required Experience

Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and expertise in performing complex hydrologic analysis using software. Preferred candidates will have experience evaluating watershed dynamics in the context of extreme events, including fundamental understanding of inter-relationships between atmospheric science and hydrology in the natural and built environments.

• BS, MS, or PhD in civil engineering with a concentration in water resources, hydrologic science, or atmospheric science.
• Expertise in hydrologic modeling with 5+ years of experience working in the industry.
• Expertise in development, calibration, and validation of event and continuous hydrologic models such as HEC-HMS, WRF-Hydro, SWAT, VIC, PRMS, HSPF, etc. with 5+ years of HEC-HMS model development experience strongly preferred.
• Experience in obtaining, manipulating, and verifying meteorological data from a variety of observational and modeled data sources.
• Familiarity with federal flood frequency guidance (Bulletin 17C) and experience in applying it using tools such as HEC-SSP.
• Knowledge of statistical modeling and simulation techniques and their application to hydrologic and atmospheric data.
• Experience in GIS for visualization, manipulation, and quality control of geospatial and meteorological data.
• Coding capabilities with Python.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Preferences:

• Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Hydrologist (PH)
• Experience with numerical weather models and/or climate models and outputs
• Experience with reservoir operations modeling and reservoir systems analysis
• Experience with stochastic storm transposition
• Experience with cloud-based systems

Salary Range

The projected range for this position is $85,000- $109,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
