Job summary

Alabama Power is seeking a Hydro Superintendent for Weiss Dam to supervise daily operations, maintenance, and compliance of the hydro plant. The role requires leading staff, managing budgets, and ensuring safety and reliability of plant systems.

Ideal candidates possess a BS in Engineering or 5+ years of plant experience, strong reading of electrical/mechanical drawings, and proven leadership and communication skills for cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Engineering or minimum of five years of plant related technical experience required.
• Leadership experience required for supervision of plant personnel.
• Experience reading electrical and mechanical drawings is required.
• Troubleshooting control systems, PLCs, and/or DCSs preferred.
• Ability to manage budgets and coordinate OM&M projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Plant Champion for Safety and enforces safety policies.
• Provides performance management for employees at assigned plant(s) including daily feedback and development.
• Sets daily agenda for plant activities (Safety, maintenance, inspections, preventive maintenance).
• Engages with community groups and builds relationships with local leaders.
• Acts as SME for technical plant issues, best practices, security, and special projects as requested.
• Develops and manages short- and long-range O&M and capital budgets for assigned plant(s).
• Manages inventory of assigned plant(s).
• Serves as Compliance Owner for NERC/FERC regulatory, dam safety, environmental, and other compliance programs.
• Fosters a healthy working dynamic with IBEW and ensures contract compliance.

Job Summary:

This position provides daily supervision for the safe operation, maintenance and compliance of assigned hydro plant.

Job Requirements:

Educational Requirements

• BS degree in Engineering or a minimum of five years of plant related technical experience is required (if no BS Degree in Engineering, then a minimum of ten years of plant related technical experience is preferred).

Experience Requirements

• Generating plant operations and maintenance experience is required .
• Leadership Experience is required .
• Experience troubleshooting control systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and/or distributed control systems (DCSs) is preferred.
• Balanced administrative and technical background is preferred.
• Project Management experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Ability to troubleshoot equipment and make critical technical judgments regarding plant operations and equipment is required .
• Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings is required .
• Strong interpersonal skills are required .
• Good oral and written communication skills are required .
• Basic computer skills are required .
• Ability to get results through others is required .
• Ability to meet on-call responsibilities is required (Should locate close enough to plant to deal with routine problems and emergencies).

Job Responsibilities:

• Serves as the Plant Champion for Safety.
• Provides performance management for employees at assigned plant(s) which includes daily performance feedback, employee development, performance documentation, non-punitive discipline program administration, etc.
• Sets the daily agenda for plant activities (e.g.Safety, JSB’s,maintenance activities, inspections and preventive maintenance).
• Participates in community activities (e.g. Renew Our Rivers, Clean Water Partnerships) and builds relationships with community leaders in assigned geographic area.
• Serves as SME for technical plant issues, best practices, security, and special projects as requested.
• Develops and manages short- and long-range O&M and capital budgets for assigned plant(s) which involves planning and executing O&M repairs and capital improvement projects.
• Manages inventory of assigned plant(s).
• Serves as Compliance Owner for assigned plant(s) which involves communicating, monitoring, and documenting NERC/FERC regulatory, dam safety, environmental, industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, hazard communication, and other mandated compliance programs.
• Develop a healthy working dynamic with IBEW. Ensures compliance with the contract.
